At especially stressful times in our lives, we may have felt anxious, depressed and fearful.
Certified as an Integrative Body Psychotherapist (IBP), I work within a framework that helps one to understand and raise awareness of unhelpful relational patterns grounded in our own histories and bodies, which show up in our lives as unhelpful repetitive patterns- especially in our most intimate and valued relationships. Yet, it's familiar.

Now more than ever, people are feeling anxious, overwhelmed and uncertain about how they are supposed to manage their relationships, careers and their lives.
I specialize in anxiety, depression, trauma, nervous system regulation, relationship issues, difficult diagnoses, psychedelic assisted therapy and psychedelic integration. I am also very passionate about gut health and understand that if our physical bodies are not functioning well it makes it more challenging to make lasting improvements in all other areas.

ECT approaches the ecology of the human experience from an anti-oppressive approach. We identify that each person is unique, and the client is the expert in their problem and not the therapist. We approach the problem as separate from the individual; the problem does not define the person. We are open and empathetic to all lifestyles and backgrounds.

I work with individuals who have experienced trauma, grief and loss who are seeking to receive support and navigating the complexities of their journey. The clients that I see often have a desire to dive deep (while honouring their own timelines and process), to make meaning, and develop the skills they need to accept their reality, and make changes where they see fit.. I understand that my clients have lives that are nuanced, complex and ever-changing, and it is my goal to be able to meet you with presence and curiosity.

Conflict regularly stems from early childhood interactions and can lead to anxiety, codependency and everything in between.
Have you been feeling fed-up, exhausted and defeated by your relationships lately? Do you wish that your communication and conflict resolution skills were better? Do you want to unravel patterns and codependency to achieve clarity? Though conflict is a normal, everyday part of life, it can be paralyzing to face alone. Childhood relationships with family members shape the way we develop communication skills and interact with conflict often resulting in adaptations used as coping mechanisms. Often an attempt at self-regulation and rooted in survival and resiliency, they can keep us from having healthy relationships.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
