I specialize in working with adults and young adults, particularly those in or allied with the 2SLGBTQ+ community, navigating complex trauma, anxiety, depression, ADHD, and more. I understand the challenges of moving through a heteronormative, neurotypical world that wasn’t built for queer or neurodivergent minds. Queer and neurodivergent individuals often learn to adapt and survive within families, social structures and religious spaces, that weren’t designed to support them. If you feel stuck in old survival patterns and are ready to break free, heal, and grow into your most authentic self, I’m here to guide and support you.

At the heart of my practice lies a simple truth: we are all travelers on life's journey, carrying the weight of our struggles. Despite our unique experiences, we are united by the shared threads of our humanity—pain, grief, and growth—each with the potential for a story of hope. I am passionate about supporting adults through challenges of anxiety, depression, trauma, ptsd, grief, relationship challenges, and life transitions. My work is especially close to my heart when helping those who are navigating the sometimes complex world of co-parenting, as I’ve walked this road myself.

I’m Pierre Begrand, a Registered Professional Counsellor in Saskatoon. Many of my clients are carrying unresolved grief, battling anxiety or depression, or feeling stuck in strained relationships. They are searching not for surface-level fixes, but for clarity, direction, and relief that feels real. Together, we examine the patterns and root causes that keep them from moving forward, and we build practical strategies to restore steadiness and resilience. I work with adults, seniors, and late teens, both in-person in Saskatoon and virtually across Canada.

What keeps us feeling like we are in limbo/stuck? Unresolved issues and traumas can keep us feeling and/or thinking that we are not progressing as we'd like, resulting in many feelings of being overwhelmed, burned out, and experiencing physical/emotional pains. Over 20 years of clinical experience, I can help you to discover and identify the core issues/patterns/beliefs, while inspiring hope and courage while you walk a more integrated path living life with more joy and abundance; with feelings of rejuvenation and release; and with an expanded self-awareness, emotional balance, and clearer thinking.

I am passionate about helping people work through past trauma and chronic stress. I believe we each have the answers & capacity to heal within ourselves; within our own bodies & minds. I work to guide and facilitate each client back to themselves; back to a place of healing. Trauma healing work requires commitment and dedication but will ultimately change patterns of thinking & behaviour to bring better health & success. I hope to support clients who are ready to do meaningful work to turn their lives in a new direction where they can utilize the skills & tools that I offer in their sessions with me.

Alcohol Use Counsellors

Are there specific medications for alcohol use?

There are oral medications approved to treat alcohol use disorder—such as disulfiram, acamprosate, and naltrexone, which also comes in an injectable form. These medications do help people reduce their drinking as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone helps reduce cravings, disulfiram can make a person feel sick when they drink, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.

How do alcohol recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other patients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals live at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff can also include people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other tools for recovery.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for alcohol use reduce the amount of alcohol they intake. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
