“I… need… help…” can be three of the hardest words to say, and It's no secret that life throws a seemingly endless supply of challenges at us until we are so overwhelmed that, before we know it, we endure hardships navigating our relationship with ourselves and those that we care for and love.

This can look like finding more successful ways to talk through difficult subjects with your partner or rekindle the friendship and romance that you're missing.
I strive to create a therapeutic environment focused on collaboration, respect, safety, and trust. It is a big step to share your story with a counsellor and I honour that by ensuring the appointments are non-judgmental, fun, client-led, and focused on building upon the strengths and resilience that each client already possesses. Adults, teens, and children always do their best when they can but we can often find ourselves in patterns that may not be meeting our current needs. Through counselling, we can acknowledge our needs and discover new language, tools, and patterns to meet these needs in more functional ways.

For marital and couples concerns, I completed my Gottman level 1 training and can offer pre-marital counselling.
My focus is working with individuals who may be experiencing various stresses like anxiety, low mood; or perhaps difficulties managing emotions, and feeling reactive in interpersonal circumstances. With a background working with moderate to severe concerns of children & youth, I can support parents in identifying the concerns of their child, and support them in learning how to connect and attune to their children's needs. I also work with couples who are looking to strengthen their relationship and prepare for transitions like parenthood. Lastly, I enjoy integrating my Christian faith background into the practice as clients see fit.

I use the mindfulness approach to help clients cope with anxiety, stress, depression, anger, relationship issues, chronic illness, pain, or coping with a challenge in their life.
I use a mindfulness approach in counselling, and I encourage my clients to live more in the present moment because this is the only one we can act on, and change. I approach therapy from the perspective of the wholeness of the person, being aware of the body, mind and spirit connection. I encourage clients to reflect on their emotional well being because it affects their physical well being. We reflect on what their body needs in order to heal, and then to write their own prescription to healing.

Specializing in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) I work with couples and families, looking to restore communication and connection with each other.
Relationships are difficult. I work on building communication to help each partner feel seen, heard and understood. We often find ourselves in cycles or patterns of interacting with each other. Learning about these patterns can help us find new ways to bring closer to our partner. Increasing communication, connection and intimacy.

Living with mental health issues such as addictions, anxiety, depression, anger, PTSD, relationship challenges, or ADHD can be incredibly taxing on the mind, body, and soul. You may have exhausted yourself trying multiple techniques, strategies, and tools with little relief. Imagine how your life would feel if you had a sense of peace, flow, ease, and happiness. There is a reason that all of the trying and striving hasn’t worked. The root of many mental health challenges is unresolved pain and trauma from past or present adverse experiences.

I work with adults and couples experiencing: anxiety, trauma, depression, stress, addiction, and grief/loss.
Everyone encounters pain and suffering throughout life, and figuring out how to process and channel that emotion is at the heart of my work. Having worked closely with Indigenous populations in Manitoba, California and the Great Lakes region, I use both culture and background to inform treatment. Every person is unique and your specific needs will determine our approach, all within a safe, secure and non-judgmental environment. To that end, I believe that a strong therapeutic relationship is based on acceptance and empathy and is essential to client change.

Couples Counselling
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
