Sometimes life feels like too much: anxiety, overwhelm, emotional intensity. Or it can feel like nothing at all: flat, disconnected, going through the motions. These are often signs that something unresolved is asking for attention. I'm Michelle, a Clinical Counsellor (16+) supporting clients with mental health, trauma, chronic health, and peri/menopause. Together, we work with the whole of you. Through body, mind, and emotions, we build your capacity to be with what you feel, so it no longer overwhelms or shuts you down. You begin to live with more ease, choice, and alignment.

Are you a peer, or colleague experiencing vicarious trauma, or compassion fatigue, and realize you must ‘do your own work’? Are you a leader seeking to explore the art of self-regulation, calm personal reactivity, and optimize your ability to manage, or supervise others?

I support people who are struggling with the impact of trauma in their daily lives. Past traumatic experiences such as sexual abuse and violence, domestic violence, or emotional neglect in childhood can wreak havoc on an individual’s life and relationships in the present. Other times, new experiences can unexpectedly trigger unhealed wounds. The good news is that people are resilient and can overcome these challenges. I believe that everyone can heal. In therapy, I will support you to connect with your inner resources and strength to rewrite the story of your past and heal from it.

You look like you’re holding it together—but inside you feel overwhelmed, stuck, or exhausted from trying to manage everything on your own. Maybe your mind won’t slow down, you overthink, struggle to follow through, or react in ways you later regret. Many of my clients are high-functioning on the outside but overwhelmed or burnt out internally. You are not broken—you just haven’t been given the right tools. At Wolf Willow Counselling, we help you understand your patterns, build practical skills, and feel more in control.

Accepting NEW Clients! Like a lot of men, you might not think counselling is for you. You don't want long talks about your feelings. It's too touchy-feely, and you doubt it would actually solve anything. You've spent your whole life being told to "suck it up" or "be a man." So that is what you have been doing, trying to handle it on your own. But you keep having blow-ups, or you feel on edge most of the time. At home you might feel like you're just going through the motions. Your partner keeps telling you, "you should see someone." For 25 years, I've worked with men exactly like you. A lot of counselling just isn't built for men.

Hi. I’m Christine. I’m a certified counsellor. I’m also an educator, mother, doula and an inner and outer explorer. Prior to becoming a therapist, I worked in the human service sector in roles such as school teacher, community justice facilitator, sexual health educator, and crisis counsellor. I have been fortunate to work with people from across the lifespan from diverse cultural, racial, sexual, religious, and economic backgrounds. It is through this work and through self-inquiry that I have come to understand how these complex intersections of identity shape one’s experience and well-being.

Having walked the journey myself, I am aware of how difficult the process of change can be. That's why I walk the journey with you. I meet you where you are, and collaboratively we decide what your journey to heal is. I am always excited to work with clients who know that they need to make changes to better their lives, even if they don't fully understand what those changes are. I bring in not only my formal education, but there is also room in my practice for your culture, spirituality, and anything else you need or want to use to help them on this journey of change.

Relationships are difficult. I work on building communication to help each partner feel seen, heard and understood. We often find ourselves in cycles or patterns of interacting with each other. Learning about these patterns can help us find new ways to bring closer to our partner. Increasing communication, connection and intimacy.

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
