I am an experienced therapist with 30 years of practise to draw upon. I will listen carefully as you describe the issues that you need support and help to sort out. Often, an increased understanding of the challenges that you face can be very helpful to move forward in your life. As well, learning some new skills to manage the issues and/or gaining a new perspective on the issues can be useful as well. I appreciate that it is not easy to embark on a therapy course so I make every effort to be supportive and understanding as we build a therapy relationship.

My belief is that people come to therapy to have an experience that is markedly different from what they encounter in their daily life. My training and experience allow me to have the tools to provide an opportunity for that different experience, whether it is getting relief from anxiety, finding grace and gratitude in the midst of grief, or gaining clarity and calm in a situation of overwhelm and confusion. We work collaboratively and creatively to uncover the root causes of your distress or dissatisfaction, and address them without re-traumatization. Our work together is safe, deep, transformative, and often spontaneously joyous.

People come to counselling/psychotherapy for many reasons. Sometimes they are struggling with distressing emotions that get in the way of their productivity, daily functioning and peace of mind. Other times, they want to have better experiences in their relationships with family, friends, a loved-one or co-workers. In some cases they are going through periods of change and struggle to find balance and comfort in the midst of uncertainty. If you are at an impasse in your life... if you simply cannot go on with things being the way they are... you are in the perfect place for change to happen!!

Transitions can be difficult. Sometimes we might not have the words/language to understand and express our experiences. Everyone has different needs and expectations. Expressive Arts Therapy is a journey that aims to help people in difficult life transitions through arts and play. This path helps you create the life you want to live. Anti-oppression and trauma-informed frameworks are my core values. I work with adults (18 +) about anxiety, depression, self-esteem, stress management, trauma, grief/loss, separation, adaptation to new conditions, and palliative illness.

I work with adults and couples to help them move towards a state of continued growth, compassion, and self-awareness in a way that is collaborative, strengths-based, and empowering. I believe in creating a client-therapist relationship that fosters authenticity, support, and space for both acceptance, and for change. This can begin in our very first session. Together, we can begin to tease apart the adaptive approaches to dealing with and moving through life you've grown accustomed to, and begin to decipher which of these patterns are serving you, and which you may be interested in moving beyond.

Life is full of challenges, but you don’t have to face them alone. In counselling, you have the opportunity to work with someone who can help you find solutions to the challenges in your life by assessing your needs and strengths, exploring possible options with you, providing you with information and resources, and/or supporting you with developing coping strategies. In my practice, I apply knowledge and skills gained from my education, employment, and ongoing learning while also drawing on my lived experience as a queer guy who has struggled with challenges related to mental health, trauma, family conflict, and other experiences.

Self-Harming (Cutting) Counsellors
Self-harm (SH) or deliberate self-harm (DSH) is the deliberate infliction of damage to your own body. It includes cutting, burning, scratching, banging or hitting yourself, interfering with wound healing, and the ingestion of toxic substances or objects. While self injury (SI) can look like suicide, it's not; most people who mutilate themselves do it as a way to regulate mood. People who hurt themselves in this way may be motivated by a need to distract themselves from inner turmoil, or to quickly release anxiety that builds due to an inability to express intense emotions.

If you're looking for help with self-harming in M6C or for someone who self harms, or cuts themselves, or bangs or hits themselves, these M6C counsellors provide counselling for self harming in M6C. They include counsellors, who understand self harming in M6C, psychologists, and therapists. They can provide self harming counselling in M6C or treatment for self harming.
