Hi there, I'm Shannaya! I am so glad our paths have crossed. As your counsellor, I believe that each person has the innate ability to create a meaningful life, whatever that may look like for you. No matter what your goals are I am along for the ride, encouraging you to take the driver's seat on your road to healing. If you're feeling stuck, and as though you have tried all options, you've come to the right place. I will encourage you to safely delve into your past, exploring your childhood, and past generations to reveal the barriers that are keeping you from being able to achieve your goals.

It's okay to be feeling VERY overwhelmed right now. When our mental health struggles, whether:it's depression, anxiety, relationship discord, or another health concern- everything feels heavier, larger and harder. My practice, The Hive Mental Health Services focuses on making counselling easy, relatable, comfortable and effective. We do so by: having flexible appointment times (days, evening and weekends), offering direct billing & a sliding scale, using realistic and implementable skills and techniques- and by never cookie cutting our clients. We use lived experience and education to help our clients feel seen, heard and helped.

Hi. I’m Christine. I’m a certified counsellor. I’m also an educator, mother, doula and an inner and outer explorer. Prior to becoming a therapist, I worked in the human service sector in roles such as school teacher, community justice facilitator, sexual health educator, and crisis counsellor. I have been fortunate to work with people from across the lifespan from diverse cultural, racial, sexual, religious, and economic backgrounds. It is through this work and through self-inquiry that I have come to understand how these complex intersections of identity shape one’s experience and well-being.

At especially stressful times in our lives, we may have felt anxious, depressed and fearful. We may resort to "self-medicating" our painful feelings through the use of alcohol, drugs, eating too much/little, "zoning out" through process addictions such as gambling, gaming, porn or even playing bingo. When what we are doing is actually contributing to our problems - we may feel even more out of control and fearful. It can be helpful at times like these to talk to someone who can help us make sense of it all. We begin to make positive incremental changes and our stress level may go down. Life begins to work again.

There are dynamics in everyday life that interplay and impact us personally. Our physical health, mental health, emotional health and spiritual health are all equally important. Those hardships, and stresses we face in life, such as financial burdens, grief, loss, isolation, family dynamics and medical circumstances to name a few, can bring us to a place where we might struggle to find the answers and ways in which to cope.

Licensed in AB, SK & MB. Everyone encounters pain and suffering throughout life, and figuring out how to process and channel that emotion is at the heart of my work. Having worked closely with Indigenous populations in Manitoba, California and the Great Lakes region, I use both culture and background to inform treatment. Every person is unique and your specific needs will determine our approach, all within a safe, secure and non-judgmental environment. To that end, I believe that a strong therapeutic relationship is based on acceptance and empathy and is essential to client change.

I see those who are overwhelmed and tired of having to mask their emotions/identity and deny their needs. They’ve lived with complex trauma, grief, or chronic stress—and they’re ready for something deeper. For children, they often need help processing what they cannot articulate- processing also doesn’t have to be verbal. Some need support in managing their responses to the fixed environment. They welcome creative, embodied approaches that bring lasting change. They want to feel grounded, connected, and heard. They’re ready to do the work—they just need a space that honours their uniqueness with skill, compassion, and respect.
