My practice encompasses working with youth, adults, couples and families, and a wide range of clients, including uniformed personnel, First Nations (on reserve), culturally diverse, LGBTQ individuals, clients in care, the inner city population, as well as with young offenders in Brazil. The main issues that have been presented in my practice are complex trauma, addictions, depression, anxiety, self-esteem, interpersonal relationships, and maladaptive behaviours.
My counselling philosophy is attachment theory, and I am passionate about the field of trauma. I believe one forms one's personality within the context of relationships. Trauma tends to negatively impact not only that process, but also multiple domains of one's life, especially in the case of the developing child/adolescent.
I believe in offering my clients an alternative to the meanings, perceptions, and responses built based on the experience of trauma. By turning the therapeutic space into a safe base and myself into a surrogate attachment figure, I set a solid foundation for my clients to address their symptoms safely.
