I take a relational approach, meaning that we hold the relationship between the therapist and client as central to a process of healing and personal growth.
Therapy can be a place for growth, connection, wholeness, and aliveness. It’s an opportunity to bring emotions, experiences and parts of yourself that you want to work through, make meaning of and learn to integrate. As a therapist and Naturopathic Doctor, I witness the deep connections between physical, mental and emotional wellbeing on a daily basis and making connections to your body is an integral part of my work, while taking into account the profound impacts of structural violence, colonization and intergenerational trauma.

My approach is relational and compassionate.
In your sessions, we will explore what you bring with curiosity and openness. Whether you are struggling in your relationships, experiencing loss or a big life change, or feeling overwhelmed and stressed, together we can explore what's happening, consider what makes sense for you, and make space to hold the feelings that are surfacing. Life is full of situations that can be difficult to navigate alone. Together, we can create a space to slow down, reflect, and better understand who you are and how you want to be in the world so that you can live a more connected and fulfilled life.

My approach to therapy is largely psychodynamic and includes an existential and relational approach.
Life is full of contradictions: We can have close relationships yet still feel isolated, have the desire for change but feel attached to the past, and have the hunger to live creatively with the need for stability. As human beings, relationships are central to our lives. Patterns and painful repetitions can exist within our own internal relationship and with others. This can lead to symptoms of anxiety, depression, or lowered self-esteem. My passion is to provide a safe, honest, inviting and collaborative therapeutic space to explore and work through these inner conflicts.

My training includes psychodynamic and relational methods, I maintain a trauma informed lens, and support body and somatic integration.
We all struggle in invisible ways as our lives become inhibited by pressures and expectations of the day to day. We are often further debilitated by our less than perfect past, where old hurts and abandon influence our current choices. Most impacted are our relationships, our work, and our connection to the self. I believe therapy gives us the opportunity to both accept what was and is, and through growth orienting processes help us recreate ourselves into versions that feel more aligned with who we would like to become.

I practice a relational modality of therapy and so the relationship between you and I is an essential component.
I imagine that you have found yourself here today because you are looking for answers to a multitude of questions. I can imagine too that you might be hurting or struggling and are in need of support and relief. Perhaps you are confused about how you are feeling but know that you are in need of a change. Are you searching for someone to talk to about what you are experiencing? I believe that we all need help at times in our lives and don’t have to go it alone. Together we can explore what exists beneath those questions. Just know that I want to hear from you. I believe that what you have to say and what you are feeling is valid.

Healing is personal, but also relational.
I work with people who are undergoing any experience that might be called 'transformation.' Sometimes transformation is forced upon us by trauma, and sometimes we are called to it from within. Either way, it can be difficult to navigate alone. I can provide you with a compassionate space where you can process pain, come to understand your patterns, and grow into your truest self. By using a holistic approach that gets to the roots of deep issues, we will move at your own pace to uncover pathways toward healing. This involves understanding the past, exploring emotions in the here-and-now, and tapping into the body's wisdom.

Utilizing approaches such as Emotionally Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy and Relational Therapy, I support adults and youth (14+) who are faced with challenges related to depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, and emotion regulation.
Life challenges can feel incredibly difficult and overwhelming. Are there challenges you have been experiencing that have been difficult to process or prevented you from enjoying your life to the fullest? Do you feel stuck in a negative pattern, isolated or disconnected from yourself or others? Together we can explore strategies and skills to address these challenges while also looking at the root cause of these concerns from an attachment lens. My goal in our work together will be to help you in exploring your thoughts and emotions and to guide you to feel empowered to live life more authentically.

I am glad you made it here. Maybe you want to work on experiencing your emotions with greater ease, navigating sex and relationships, making peace with painful history or just have someone listen to what you say. Therapy can offer a chance to notice patterns, move towards acceptance, create change or just check in with yourself. I take a non-pathologizing approach to struggles and see them as a painful but common part of the human experience. I often work using trauma and attachment informed emotion focused therapy that also uses a relational, intersectional feminist and systemic lens. Together we can work to make sense of things.

I am primarily a relational therapist although my approach is informed by Gestalt Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and Internal Family Systems Therapy.
Congratulations! You've decided to seek therapy. You've taken the first, courageous step towards the future you want and deserve. I specialize in individuals who are grappling with transitions in their relationships, careers, and identities. While life transitions can trigger profound emotional reactions such as bereavement, anger, anxiety, and depression, they can also be empowering and transformative.

I am a relational psychotherapist who works to help clients find a sense of empowerment around the issues that are troubling them, to help them explore and understand the meaning and impact of these experiences, and to find change. I draw on many theories, and work particularly in a psychodynamic way (seeing how one is impacted in the present by one's past experiences). With clients who would like to work on childhood issues, I help them resolve and integrate those experiences - family issues, relationship issues, trauma. Together we decide whether short or long term work is preferred.

Whether you are sorting through an overwhelming life event, or are wondering why you feel a certain way, I want to understand your experience and what is important to you. It is key that you feel supported to bring forward what you want to talk about so that together we can begin to make sense of what is going on for you.

I offer relational, psychodynamic, somatic informed psychotherapy.
Very often, and for lots of reasons, we can feel disconnected from our inner world. Navigating loss, feeling anxious or frustrated with life, or difficulties in relationships can leave us feeling overwhelmed and stuck. For most of us, we’re often not sure how to deal with hard feelings. So we adapt as best we can, and develop strategies to cope. Sometimes these strategies can start to interfere with our lives. Which is why Therapy can help. By being curious about your experiences, and listening intently, we can begin to learn what your needs are and move towards feeling better.

How does relational therapy work?

Relational therapy was developed by psychologist Jean Miller, whose ideas stressed that having strong connections with others encourages better health and well-being when compared with a lonely existence. Conversely, poor interpersonal relationships do not foster growth and learning. Relational therapy also encourages trust in others and patience with others, along with better communication and less conflict.

Is relational therapy evidence-based?

Relational therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating certain mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments like cognitive behavioural or acceptance and commitment therapy. However, relational therapy uses techniques found in cognitive behavioural therapy as well as psychodynamic therapy, which are both well-studied with empirical research.

How long are people typically in relational therapy?

Clients may see improvement after a few weeks or months of therapy. Like cognitive behavioral therapy, relational therapy can reduce symptoms within 10 to 20 weeks, at 45 to 50 minutes once a week. But like any type of therapy, improvement depends on the person and the severity of the problem.

Does relational therapy work?

While no therapy type will work for everyone, some evidence suggests that this therapy can be effective. Relational therapy can help a person manage problematic relationships as well as the mental health conditions that accompany difficult relationships like depression or anxiety. This therapy type may offer benefits that are hard to measure but can be just as valuable—including feelings of higher self-worth or healthier connections with others.
