My theoretical approach to therapy utilizes relational attachment, trauma and cognitive explanations to human emotional and behavioural suffering.
Going to therapy, particularly for the first time, can be difficult. You may want someone who can give you direction or tools, who you can also connect with and feel supported by. At my practice, I strive to provide a good therapeutic relationship with someone who is warm, caring, competent and knowledgeable.

As a relational psychotherapist, I specialize in working with individuals and couples who are searching for meaning and new direction in their lives. Based on over 30 years of experience working with clients, I realize that there is no one method to be used with every client. Pulling on a wide range of modalities, including breath work and a body-mind awareness, I tailor our way of working based on the client's needs and issues. Also as a Jungian, I have come to understand the value of working with dreams in order to tune into the deep unconscious currents in the psyche.

My area of specialty is relational wounds from the past and how they affect relationships today.
Thank you for reaching out. My passion as a therapist is supporting individuals and couples from a non judgmental stance who are struggling with relationship and self. I am dedicated to helping individuals and couples build connection, repair infidelity, and I also provide sex therapy. Often times, relational challenges stem from trauma in childhood and from attachment wounds. Together we will work together to bring back love and intimacy to your partnership or marriage or we will find alternative ways to move forward gently and kindly. No matter how difficult life feels now, I assure you I am here to help.

Here’s what I do to help. I integrate key therapeutic principles drawing on a wide range of psychodynamic, cognitive behavior and dialectical behavior modalities, in which I invite you to sit down with me in a relaxed, safe, informal way, and talk. If you've never been in psychotherapy, it can be hard to believe that "just talking" can be helpful. But if you’re depressed, anxious and feeling bad about yourself, you can be profoundly helped by an in-depth conversation in which you come to create greater self-understanding, discover insights and meanings, recognize patterns, and explore options and skills.

I also provide Relational Psychdynamic supervision to practicum students and clinicans.
If you're reading this, you've already made one of the bravest steps towards help and life-long change. One reason I started Centred Self Psychotherapy is because I wanted to ensure clients get incredible psychotherapists, who are self-aware, passionate & skilled. At Centred Self, we believe that psychotherapy is first and foremost about relationship – to be able to delve into even the scariest of topics with someone that you trust. We do not practice a ‘band-aid’ approach, but work to create lasting change, getting to the root of what's going on. We also offer Reduced Cost Therapy with our student clinic, and EMDR with Gina Lihou.

I am a mature 3rd year student therapist studying at the Toronto Institute for Relational Psychotherapy (TIRP).
I understand what it's like to search for a therapist- we hope to find someone who feels like a good fit and with whom we feel a sense of comfort and connection. Are you searching for a therapist for a specific reason, or, like many of us, are you unsure about why you are searching at all? My approach is client-led, which means that you decide what to talk about in our sessions. I will listen with empathy and acceptance. Together, we will illuminate and make sense of issues in your emotional life. We will create space for new understandings about yourself. This self-discovery will be handled with compassionate regard for you.

I use an integrative, relational, mind-body approach and have specialized in complex trauma and dissociation, having trained extensively in EMDR, DBR, Structural Dissociation (parts work), Here+Now Work & somatic-relational modalities such as the Hakomi Method.
It’s not always easy being human, is it? I find that the greatest gift of therapy, when there is a strong air of compassion, presence and curiosity in the therapeutic alliance, is the ability to reclaim our needs, our full range of feelings, our joy and our aliveness. While building skills of mindfulness, self-compassion, and embodied awareness, I believe there is immense possibility that lies in our unfolding wholeness, waiting to be discovered - creative choice made more accessible, when we're less held back by our fears, our core beliefs, and pain that we've had to organize around to survive.

During our first appointments together, you and I will consider and clarify the issues that are of utmost concern to you using a collaborative and relational approach.
Deciding to seek help is a powerful step toward better mental health. Through my experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and families, I understand that difficulties may arise regardless of one's age or phase of life. From life challenges to transition periods (e.g., changing careers, schools, relationships), to traumatic experiences, it can be difficult to make sense of our selves or our directions. I am proud to support clients from all walks of life (inclusive of all gender identities, sexual orientations, abilities, races, cultures, and relationship types) in achieving their own unique vision of success.

I'm trained in Relational Psychotherapy, a modality that seeks to help people to understand themselves in relationship with others; past, present and future.
Hi, want to talk about how you're doing? How are your relationships, do you feel genuinely connected to the people in your life? Is there something you're sitting with that you've thought about countless times but can't seem to shift your thinking about? Would it help to have someone to look at it with, someone who's curious about your perspective and sees it from a slightly different angle? It can be scary to imagine unpacking and examining how we relate to others and ourselves: it often involves exploring where we've been in order to understand where we are and where we're headed. I'm here to accompany you on that journey.

How does relational therapy work?

Relational therapy was developed by psychologist Jean Miller, whose ideas stressed that having strong connections with others encourages better health and well-being when compared with a lonely existence. Conversely, poor interpersonal relationships do not foster growth and learning. Relational therapy also encourages trust in others and patience with others, along with better communication and less conflict.

Is relational therapy evidence-based?

Relational therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating certain mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments like cognitive behavioural or acceptance and commitment therapy. However, relational therapy uses techniques found in cognitive behavioural therapy as well as psychodynamic therapy, which are both well-studied with empirical research.

How long are people typically in relational therapy?

Clients may see improvement after a few weeks or months of therapy. Like cognitive behavioral therapy, relational therapy can reduce symptoms within 10 to 20 weeks, at 45 to 50 minutes once a week. But like any type of therapy, improvement depends on the person and the severity of the problem.

Does relational therapy work?

While no therapy type will work for everyone, some evidence suggests that this therapy can be effective. Relational therapy can help a person manage problematic relationships as well as the mental health conditions that accompany difficult relationships like depression or anxiety. This therapy type may offer benefits that are hard to measure but can be just as valuable—including feelings of higher self-worth or healthier connections with others.
