The foundation of therapy is the same for all ages; together we build a strong relational container, explore what feels challenging, and create space for change.
The best feeling is knowing who we are and feeling safe to be ourselves in the world. I love working with parents and caregivers on the challenges you face, and with you and your child on the underlying reasons for their behaviour. Children do what they do in order to get a need met. Once we understand the protective system of ourselves and our children we can meet our children where they need us most. Health in the early years is linked to health across the lifespan and therapy can lay the foundation for your child's well-being over time.

I support clients managing emotional challenges, BPD traits, depression, OCD, perfectionism, negative internal dialogue, addiction, grief, trauma, and difficult family dynamics. Together we explore a client's history, experience, emotions, and develop better skills for managing challenges. Often old coping strategies are no longer serving the client. Developing relational intimacy with others, and more compassionate communication with self is integral to my work with individuals and families. Together we find solutions for healing and moving forward in healthy ways so clients can align more authenticly with themselves.

I'm Angela and I've been told that I'm approachable, warm and down-to-earth. Many of my clients come in saying that they had a "pretty good" upbringing. I create a space for you to explore whether it might be more complex. Relational wounds need relational repair. It’s essential to have a trustworthy guide in the journey back to your own inner wisdom. I believe that a good guide can help you to identify where nurturance, protection and guidance were lacking when you needed them most and also help you look at how this might still affect your relational patterns today and invite you towards more satisfaction in love, work and sex.

Embodied Relational Trauma Therapy. Embodied means looking at what we sense and feel with our whole self to get as much data as we can. Relational means we are impacted by our environments including the others in our lives, every moment, every breath. Trauma indicates where are we stuck (in time, in our bodies, in our minds) due to lack of effective supports. Therapy asks how do we get moving again, starting from where we are and who we are, right now, in this very moment.

My practice is informed by somatic, narrative, and relational perspectives, as well as by feminist and queer theories and emerging understandings of neurodiversity.
I approach therapy as a creative and collaborative process that involves the whole being of both the therapist and client. In order to lead fulfilling, joyful lives, humans need access to the intelligence available through their physical, psychological, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual selves. Trauma, shame, and fear can disrupt our ability to access and experience these aspects of self fully, and can leave us feeling dissatisfied with our lives. By working directly with clients' felt sense of their bodies, as well as their stories and their feelings, I support clients in deepening their relationship to all aspects of themselves.

Relational Somatic Therapy helps you connect with the deep wisdom of your body and strengthens your capacity to trust in its guidance. Learning to listen deeply to your mind and body, you become gently and honestly present. RST invites you to slowly meet and begin to integrate the parts in you that have been abandoned, neglected or rejected, as you learn to love yourself. This work is an invitation to meet, feel, hold and heal your wounds and negative self-beliefs. The negative core beliefs you may have about yourself, such as “I’m unworthy” or “the world is an unsafe place”, drive your unconscious behaviour, thoughts and feelings.

In my practice, I offer support in the areas of death, grief and loss, anxiety, depression, life transitions, women's issues and relational conflict.
Thank you for being here and showing an interest in Narrative Therapy. It is quite possible that you are wondering, "What exactly is Narrative Therapy?" Narrative practice is a respectful, non-blaming approach to therapy and community work. It is dedicated to rich questions and generous listening. Narrative therapy explores the many skills, values, beliefs, abilities and commitments people have and is curious about the dominant discourses a person may find themselves up against in their lives.

Using a heart-led approach to counselling, I integrate self-compassion, mindfulness, and somatic movement to explore the parts of you that make up Self. Through this approach, we lovingly challenge the Ego to connect with the heart to allow more space to live authentically. Informed by my intuition and anchoring into the present moment, I take a relational approach to navigate challenges and move through suffering. By learning to understand how your mind, body, and spirit, when connected, become your superpower, we will discover that you are more resilient and capable than you think and your whole world will change.

All humans have the capacity for wellness, healing, and growth, despite the adversities we face. As a former national team athlete and current RCC, I have a unique understanding of the psychological pressures that coincide with sport-participation and managing difficult emotions. I also enjoy working with a diverse range of clients (14+) and couples to address a variety of concerns. These areas may include, but are not limited to, challenges with performance and social anxiety, depression, trauma/abuse, relational conflict, grief/loss, and disordered eating/RED-S.

I approach counselling through a somatic, trauma-informed, relational, and emotions-focused lens, and have a particular interest in working with highly sensitive/possibly neurodivergent young adults, and parents.
My ultimate goal in our work together is that you feel seen and understood in all of your humanness, and that our relationship serves as a safe place to explore whatever is holding you back from experiencing the world as your most rooted and alive self. Through a gentle and collaborative approach, we will work together to attune to the present moment feelings and sensations that are often shied away from, and generally build resiliency to face life's inevitable challenges.

Relational Counsellors

How does relational therapy work?

Relational therapy was developed by psychologist Jean Miller, whose ideas stressed that having strong connections with others encourages better health and well-being when compared with a lonely existence. Conversely, poor interpersonal relationships do not foster growth and learning. Relational therapy also encourages trust in others and patience with others, along with better communication and less conflict.

Is relational therapy evidence-based?

Relational therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating certain mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments like cognitive behavioural or acceptance and commitment therapy. However, relational therapy uses techniques found in cognitive behavioural therapy as well as psychodynamic therapy, which are both well-studied with empirical research.

How long are people typically in relational therapy?

Clients may see improvement after a few weeks or months of therapy. Like cognitive behavioral therapy, relational therapy can reduce symptoms within 10 to 20 weeks, at 45 to 50 minutes once a week. But like any type of therapy, improvement depends on the person and the severity of the problem.

Does relational therapy work?

While no therapy type will work for everyone, some evidence suggests that this therapy can be effective. Relational therapy can help a person manage problematic relationships as well as the mental health conditions that accompany difficult relationships like depression or anxiety. This therapy type may offer benefits that are hard to measure but can be just as valuable—including feelings of higher self-worth or healthier connections with others.
