Accepting new clients! I believe in supporting individuals on their journey to learn to regulate and separate their illnesses from their self-concept. I believe that therapy is a collaborative process. I like to provide my clients with strength and values-based therapy that will lead my clients to self-acceptance. Shame is rampant and stops our ability to feel worthy. I want to help my clients reduce shame and guilt leading to being able to meet the eyes of a loved one and see the positive reflection when that someone looks at them.

When was the last time you experienced harmony with your core principles? At Hartwell Counselling, I provide a compassionate and transformative therapy rooted in evidence-based practices such as EMDR. EMDR which stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing and its the gold standard for treating and processing trauma. EMDR reduces trauma symptoms in a shorter time frame than the traditional talk therapy. Many clients have reported a reduction of traumatic symptoms after the initial few sessions of EMDR. EMDR is not a magic cure for trauma but it might produce some symptoms relief.

Despite being strong and resilient, life can be hard and overwhelming at times. Above the surface you are desperately trying to hold it together, below the surface you are feeling overwhelmed, stressed, and exhausted. You are always taking care of others, whether it be children, the community, or Indigenous social-political issues and leaving your own self care on the back burner. You've tried different things to try and feel better, but nothing seems to help, leaving you feeling stuck and like things will never change.

Compassion, kindness and mindfulness is the heart of my practice. I am passionate about client empowerment and being non-judgmental. My approach is based on the needs of my clients, meaning that although I have a systemic and Emotional focused therapy foundation, I use psychodynamic approach and cognitive behavioral, or solution focused strategies as required. Fundamentally, I believe that people are capable of change and that in order to change we need a better understanding of ourselves and others.
