I work with both individuals and couples and specialize in depression and anxiety as well as in helping people cope with life transitions and relationship issues. In treating anxiety I use cognitive-behavioural techniques including relaxation therapy. In treating depression I focus on altering negative thinking patterns and offering support and strategies to change behaviours. I also have a great deal of experience in helping patients with burnout and other work related issues.

While I am well versed in treating general concerns such as depression and anxiety, my particular areas of expertise include infertility, reproduction-related mood changes (including post-partum, premenstrual and menopausal mood changes), substance abuse, eating disorders/weight loss, sex therapy (including dyspareunia, or painful intercourse), and interpersonal difficulties/self-esteem.
We, as human beings, all face difficult times during our lives. These phases can leave us feeling out of control and isolated. The simple act of choosing change in your life can help you to feel empowered and on a path to a greater sense of well-being. As an integrative therapist (using cognitive behavioral, supportive, interpersonal and existential techniques), I will first help you to define your goals and then support you as you work towards achieving them. Using those techniques that best suit your particular needs and styles, we will effectively create a New Therapy tailored specifically for you.

Life sometimes imposes overwhelming challenges that cause us feel lost and believe there is no choice but to suffer. When we are in the midst of a crisis it is not always easy to see a way out. However, in these circumstances, there is often an opportunity for personal growth. It is at this time that a professional may help you identify inner obstacles preventing you from moving forward and experiencing life to its fullest. I see my role as helping clients with that. My clinical practice focuses on individuals and couples from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds, struggling with relationship issues, anxiety, and depression .

I am skilled in working with a wide variety of presenting problems, including special areas of interest such as: Women's Issues, Anxiety & Depression ,Youth at Risk, Healing from Abusive parents and Trauma & Loss.
I provide support and guidance to girls and women to fully and authentically come into themselves. I understand the complexities of the daily experince of being female in our society and how difficult it is for women to be strong, caring and assertive in our society. I take a women-centered approach to mental health and do not label behaviors and emotions as disordered but to understand these as responses in the context of your life. I strive to help my clients understand that we have to face our discomfort first before we can let it go. This takes great courage and vulnerability on your part.

Depression Counsellors
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy by depression counsellors in Westmount. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
