Psychodynamic Therapists in Verdun, QC
I'm a music therapist. Anyone who needs different space to explore - whether to process what they are experiencing, or to develop a creative project - can benefit from my general practice. In my specialty, I often work with young children who are manifesting developmental differences or symptoms like anxiety, and with older children who are encountering obstacles related to a diagnosis or to trauma. I also offer support for young adults, including adapted piano and composition lessons at all levels. My approach is neuroaffirming and participant-led.

All of us have, at times, struggled to live our lives in a way that feels fulfilling. We can become stuck in a cycle of negative thinking, dreary feelings, and ineffectual behaviours. In the midst of the many challenges in life, having someone share part of the journey with you and help provide clarity can be enormously helpful. I am a psychologist with over twenty years of experience counselling individuals, leading groups, and supervising therapists-in-training. I have successfully treated a variety of needs and find meaning in working with grief and loss, anxiety, depression, and trauma.

You may be an adult experiencing emotional distress, anxiety, or the lasting impact of trauma, feeling stuck or overwhelmed by life transitions. You might be questioning meaning, identity, or direction—often during midlife, migration, or relational challenges. You seek a deeper understanding of yourself and the patterns shaping your emotional life. I view those who come to therapy not simply as clients or patients, but as individuals navigating personal suffering in a complex world. My work supports the growth of self-awareness and the exploration of underlying difficulties that may limit one’s sense of agency and potential.

Hello, I am glad you're here. I hope that you find what you’re looking for and, if you'd like, perhaps I can lend you a helping hand along the way. I believe that nurturing a deeper understanding of ourselves, others, and the contexts we live in; recognizing the parts that we can and cannot change; and grieving what we should have received but didn't, can allow us more meaning and contentment as we move in life. I hope to accompany you in your process, whether you feel stuck in repeating patterns, are facing difficult situations, and/or are trying to find balance and fulfillment in the various roles you hold.

For the last 27 years I have shared my time as a psychotherapist and art therapist between the Division of Adolescent Medicine at the Montreal Children’s Hospital and private practice at the Queen Elizabeth Health Centre. In addition, since 2005 I have taught in Concordia University's Masters in Art Therapy. I offer a therapeutic place for adults, children and teenagers to work individually. I work with a focus on both current maladaptive patterns, origins of current emotions, behaviours and thoughts, and a strong emphasis on one's sense of self, while always finding the strengths and resilience that is in each person.

With over 30 years of experience, I incorporate a psychodynamic approach with cognitive behavioral techniques.
The teen and young adult years can be tumultuous and fraught with challenges. Many young people experience difficulties during this time which can result in emotional, behavioral, social, academic and/or family issues. Therapy provides an opportunity to stop, reflect, and talk about issues confidentially and openly. I work individually with teens aged 14 and older, as well as adults, in an environment of compassion, non-judgement and respect. Clients and I work collaboratively to explore concerns, examine different perspectives, and work through challenges and obstacles to change, in order to make healthy choices.

My approach supports clients in developing long-term emotional insight through psychodynamic reflection, while simultaneously providing concrete, evidence-based tools from CBT and solution-focused therapy to foster immediate coping and progress.
With 15+ years' experience across the public and private sectors, I’ve had the privilege of working with a wide range of individuals and communities. I began my journey in the world of Science, driven by a desire to understand how things work. Over time, that same curiosity expanded to the most complex system of all - people. This led me to transition into Psychology and Counselling, where I could explore human behaviour more deeply and meaningfully. Throughout my career, the focus has remained the same: genuine listening to help support behavioural shifts & individual understanding while improving communication within partnerships.

Psychodynamic Counsellors
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.
How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.
Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.
What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
