I have been working with youth and young adults for over 10 years in educational settings. My work has primarily focused on those with learning disorders, mood, attention, motivational, peer and relationship issues. I provide support to those undergoing life transitions, dealing with depression, anxiety, and stress. I use a client-centered eclectic approach which uses expressive art therapy, mindfulness and somatic based techniques aimed at repairing disconnection between the mind, body, and the outer world. Art therapy is particularly useful when words can sometimes feel limiting or restricting.

I specialize in treating adolescents and adults with eating disorders and other challenges that they may experience. I use an integrative approach in psychotherapy, combining the principles of the psychodynamic current, centered on the understanding of which antecedent experiences and influences affect our present feelings and our relationships with others, and a humanist approach, encouraging each person to draw on their resources and creativity. It feels important for me to respect the rhythm and needs of each person and to provide a caring space.

This mindset led to my conveying my healing journey through an animated film short, telecasts, writings about recovery and creating a therapeutic theater event for at-risk women.
Complex trauma recovery is a comprehensive process that provides regulation, cohesion and reclamation of the parts of the self that were abandoned for the sake of survival. Together we can navigate healing and attain life affirming goals so that thriving can ensue. A complex trauma therapist in NYC for over three decades, I am now a member of the Canadian Counseling & Psychotherapy Association and provide trauma-informed virtual treatment in Canada. I offer psychodynamic, creative, spiritual and holistic methods and resources that assist with healing from complex trauma, narcissistic abuse and addictive disorders.

My therapy style is integrative, informed by various scientifically supported treatment interventions. An important element in my therapy approach is to develop your strengths and assets. After 25 years in psychotherapy, I’ve seen a deep longing in women—one that goes beyond insight alone.
I help women replace self-criticism with compassion, honor their voices, and trust their inner wisdom. Emotions aren’t disorders but messengers guiding healing. Through therapy, sacred gatherings, and feminine archetypes, I empower women to embrace their authenticity and create profound change. Healing is an embodied experience—let’s walk this path together.

These include relationship issues, emotional abuse, women's issues, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, life transitions, childhood trauma and grief.
I enjoy helping women to 'find their voice' in relationships, and helping men to find more intimacy and connection, by healing from dysfunctional patterns and learning new ways to communicate and interact. These changes can last a lifetime, and form the foundation for more fulfilling, satisfying relationships.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
