I have worked in various community and hospital settings, specializing in the treatment of depression (including self-esteem, perfectionism), trauma, substance misuse, and emotion dysregulation (including emotional avoidance, borderline personality).
In practice, I pay special attention to your strengths and resilience, while also encouraging awareness of what might need to change. I don't just ask questions; I incorporate humor and/or share my own experiences and honest opinions to foster genuine openness between us. I believe successful therapy starts with a caring, open, and authentic relationship.

As a trauma informed therapist, I have integrated approaches from the best somatic and trauma methods such as EMDR and EFT Tapping.
I have been working in this field for two decades, supporting individuals with anxiety, depression, relationship challenge, burnout and grief. Some clients are going through major life traditions and need emotional support to navigate the turbulent waters of uncertainty, fear and change. We all have struggles in our lives but we don't have to do it alone. With the right guidance and tools, we can feel comforted and gain clarity to make the best choices for our lives. My focus is always to assist my clients in building their capacity for resilience and emotional regulation.

I prioritize anti-oppressive, trauma-informed, and resource-oriented approaches in my practice.
Sometimes words aren’t enough. As a music therapist, I integrate music-making and listening into the therapeutic space to help individuals express themselves creatively, develop coping skills, and reconnect with their authentic selves. Whether we’re listening to music, improvising on instruments, or crafting songs together, each session is thoughtfully tailored to your unique strengths and needs. I’m here to actively listen, support, and reflect, both through music and conversation—no musical experience is necessary.

My style is trauma informed, humanistic, emotion-focused, strength-based, and compassionate.
Navigating life can be challenging, considering suffering and uncertainty are central to the human experience. In efforts to feel happier, we tend to deny our pain, hoping it will eventually go away. It may be efficient for a while, but ultimately this prevents us from showing up authentically in our relationships and experiencing the very thing we want most: inner peace, confidence, connection and belonging. The good news is these challenges make us human, they are not uncommon, and you have what it takes to create the life you crave. It simply requires following your intuition and getting the support you need.

Are you a gay man who is overwhelmed by the intensity of your feelings? Do certain situations feel triggering or remind you of a past trauma? It can feel unbearable when you’re just trying to keep it together, and hoping nobody notices when you start breathing rapidly, sweating, or shaking.
To start, we’ll create a customized plan for your counselling. Often, I’ll first teach you some skills for understanding and managing your emotions so that you feel more in control and grounded early on. We’ll also explore your history so that we can do more advanced therapeutic work that focuses on addressing your unique challenges and achieving your goals.

As a clinical counselor (CO) with the OCCOQ and a psychotherapist with a permit from the OPQ, I have worked for over nine years with diverse clients facing various challenges, including behavioral problems, emotional regulation, PTSD, anxiety, and depression.
Throughout our sessions, I strive to create an environment of compassion, acceptance, and present moment awareness. I don't see myself as fundamentally different from the client, but rather as someone who can bring a fresh perspective to their situation. I believe that the client and I are both climbing our own mountains, and I can use my vantage point to identify obstacles on their mountain that they may not be aware of. In therapy, every struggle is important, and no one's pain is greater or less than another's. Together, we can then find new ways to navigate these obstacles and chart a new course towards a more fulfilling life.

I worked for years with individuals who have experienced acute trauma such as sexual violence and victims of crime as well as complex PTSD.
I am a registered Psychotherapist and Social Worker in QC. I subscribe to the idea that suffering is a natural part of the human experience; we suffer and experience discomfort so we can cope and grow. It is possible however that we can exceed our threshold of suffering and our normal coping mechanisms are no longer sufficient. This is when our discomfort begins to feel like pain, anxiety, and depressive thoughts and is no longer beneficial to our growth. I like to think of my role as the collaborator and support system for times like these.

Trauma and PTSD Counsellors

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
