Everyone can use a helping hand from time to time. Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship/family difficulties, substance use, burnout, work-life balance, or life transitions (to name a few), I will work collaboratively with you to help you achieve your goals. I practice primarily from an Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) perspective, incorporating elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and self-compassion as needed. However, as everyone’s struggles are unique, I tailor my approach to meet my clients’ individual needs.

I’m a clinical psychologist with 4 decades of experience with evidence- informed treatments for anxiety and mood disorders, PTSD with/without substance use disorders and disorders of attachment.
My ideal client is pretty tired of being 'stuck' in painful, repetitive, unproductive emotional traps, expects organised, focussed, evidence-informed, gentle, respectful care. I keep a small private practice (never more than 2-4 clients/week) where you can expect compassion, clarity, humour and a safe, respectful space to clarify your values, test your limits and move through impasse, using cognitive-behavioral interventions where appropriate. Complete the intake assessment, and you’ll get evidence-informed, clear statements on what changes you can expect, by when. Ambivalent ? Mistrustful? Discouraged? Come as you are.

Change starts with the relationship that we form in the therapy and then continues by building useful skills in and outside of our sessions. In practice this means that I fit best with clients who are interested in (1) understanding more about their thoughts and emotions while also (2) taking clear steps to improve their mental and physical well-being. My job as the therapist is to provide a warm and caring environment to support the client in this process.

Hi! I’m a Black, queer, non-binary social worker, yoga facilitator and parent. Sometimes we go through experiences that trigger emotions we may not know how to cope with. Using my lived experience and training in somatic and other modalities, I help people to explore their emotions, to better understand and manage them, as well as build deeper connections with themselves and with others. I believe everyone has the ability to heal themselves, and I am passionate about supporting this journey. I mostly work with queer, trans and/or racialized people but I also support many other communities.

There are increasing psychological problems which do not meet traditional psychiatric disorders but concern developmental 'family-of-origin' attachment dynamics, impacting adult functioning-regarding work, intimacy and creativity. Although external factors are often rather 'real' and painful- self justification, rationalization and avoidance/denial often defeat heartfelt goals, dreams, desires and unique potential regarding school/work, intimacy, creativity and future possibilities.

Over the years as a helping professional I realized that people care less about clever language and elaborate techniques and more about receiving sincere love and compassion, living hope and courage, honest feedback, and new perspectives. What proved to help is having the mutual trust to explore and work on intimate, sometimes painful topics, step-by-step. Together, we invite your strengths and natural wisdom to take the steering wheel of your life, letting go of the grasp of your fears and limiting self-beliefs. Together, we also help you chose and create new habits towards a better ways of being.

Personal growth is an ongoing process that often requires focused attention and accompaniment. Results are based on the ability to built a trusting relationship that is interactive and collaborative. I am a bilingual, licensed, therapist that has worked in field for over 30 years. My interactive style tends to be warm, engaging and down to earth; while at the same time being clear and direct. I am also known to introduce creative and humorous approaches to the interactive process and the presenting challenges. This occurs through a "strengths based" approach and in a relaxed and welcoming setting.

I am a registered Psychotherapist and Social Worker in QC. I subscribe to the idea that suffering is a natural part of the human experience; we suffer and experience discomfort so we can cope and grow. It is possible however that we can exceed our threshold of suffering and our normal coping mechanisms are no longer sufficient. This is when our discomfort begins to feel like pain, anxiety, and depressive thoughts and is no longer beneficial to our growth. I like to think of my role as the collaborator and support system for times like these.

Substance Use Counsellors

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counsellors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
