I use an integrative therapeutic approach that includes the use of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy, and
Psychodynamic
techniques.
I provide evidence-based psychotherapy to adults for a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, grief, burn out, time management, and goal setting. I have worked in both University Mental Health settings, and private practices in the Montreal and Toronto areas. I am familiar with the unique challenges of both students and professionals alike. Some clients need only a few sessions to achieve specific therapy goals, while others prefer to spend more time taking a more in depth look at complex issues effecting their daily lives.

Not accepting new clients. Feeling sad, guilty, panicky, overwhelmed? Everyone experiences periods of stress, anxiety, grief, and conflict, so when you're feeling off it can be hard to know if it's time to see a professional. The fact that you are looking for a psychologist is a good indicator of your readiness to do something different. I am a psychologist licenced by the Ordre des Psychologues du Québec and I have experience in helping people with a large breadth of difficulties. I am trained to offer both CBT and
psychodynamic
therapies.

People enter psychotherapy for a variety of reasons, whether it is for anxiety, depression, emotion regulation, grief, illnesses, relational issues, life transitions, or dissatisfaction with their life. No matter the challenge, psychotherapy is an excellent opportunity for us to better understand how we function and reconsider the choices we make in life that contribute to distress and emotional suffering. Within a supportive and nurturing space, my goal is to help you gain new perspectives on your emotion, thought, and behavioural patterns, reconnect with your strengths, and explore concrete new ways of being.

I strongly believe in your innate potential for growth and healing. I aim to create a caring, authentic and collaborative atmosphere to facilitate that process. I meet you where you are in your journey and offer a deep sense of engagement and in-depth listening. I work predominantly within a
psychodynamic
framework to address the unconscious factors which contribute to suffering and symptoms. By engaging with unconscious material, you will expand self-understanding and self-awareness. In my work, I typically incorporate elements from mindfulness, breathwork, emotion-focused therapy and compassion-focused therapy.

In addition, I have training in Somatic therapy,
Psychodynamic
therapy, Leadership coaching, and Mindfulness practice.
I am a registered Psychotherapist and Social Worker in QC. I subscribe to the idea that suffering is a natural part of the human experience; we suffer and experience discomfort so we can cope and grow. It is possible however that we can exceed our threshold of suffering and our normal coping mechanisms are no longer sufficient. This is when our discomfort begins to feel like pain, anxiety, and depressive thoughts and is no longer beneficial to our growth. I like to think of my role as the collaborator and support system for times like these.

I have a deep conviction in the value of this profession and in what unfolds through the therapeutic process. The most important aspect is the meaningful relationship that will develop between us. It will facilitate in the understanding of older relational patterns and will serve as a guide towards more meaningful and secure relationships. You will also have a safe space to explore and gain insight into past experiences that could be too painful and confusing to bring to awareness without a supportive therapeutic presence. Furthermore by working these through it will broaden the range of effective coping strategies used in the present.

I use a combination of
Psychodynamic
and Socio-Cultural approaches, which helps one to look at oneself not only within the local context of the family, but also in community, cultural, historical and environmental contexts.
While pain is part of human experience, it needs attention when it turns into suffering. Are you going through a time of transition? Feeling confused, desperate, frustrated, or humiliated? Are you having trouble with overeating, depression or anxiety? Therapy can help to transform suffering into joy and peace: physical, social, emotional, and intellectual. Art Therapy offers a safe space to slow down and tap into inner resourcefulness, as well as a creative process that can bring different views and resolutions to difficult situations.

I have a particular interest in
psychodynamic
approaches as well as ACT, EFT, and attachment and queer theory.
My clients are interested in achieving goals through insight creation. Together we can work through themes of family of origin, interpersonal relationships, attachment, emotion regulation, gender- and sexuality-related stress, and moreover, the underlying roots to current, stressful realities.

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.
How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.
Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.
What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
