I work with children, teens, and young adults with ADHD, learning disabilities and Autism.
Feeling misunderstood or like an outcast? Are you trapped in your head and overwhelmed by big emotions, Drama therapy could be a good fit for you. Are you or your child looking for therapy that works with your brain, not against it? Navigating school, friendships, or independence, therapy can help you build confidence, manage emotions, and feel more at ease being yourself. Currently, struggling with shutdowns, communication, or feeling disconnected from yourself, therapy can help you build confidence, manage energy, and feel calmer in the present moment. I have availability for new clients on Saturdays and Wednesday evenings.

I have guided clients of all ages through a broad variety of life situations & worked with the neurodivergent population for 20 yrs in education and art therapy.
Hello! My name is Katrina. Thank you for your interest. I love doing what I do! I enjoy accompanying my clients on their journey, figuring out what makes them “tick,” watching as they bloom and discover new pathways they might not have seen for themselves before. Therapy can be like stirring up a muddy puddle, and waiting for it to settle. Once the debris moves around and quietly settles into its new home, then you can see clearly again. I will be there to consistently provide you with a safe space where you can explore yourself, your needs, and your wishes. Together we will figure out how we can get you where you want to be.

With autistic children requiring very substantial support, and young children showing early signs, work at Aria Music Therapy typically begins with free exploration in an interactive musical space that promotes engagement and communication.
I'm a music therapist. Anyone who needs different space to explore - whether to process what they are experiencing, or to develop a creative project - can benefit from my general practice. In my specialty, I often work with young children who are manifesting developmental differences or symptoms like anxiety, and with older children who are encountering obstacles related to a diagnosis or to trauma. I also offer support for young adults, including adapted piano and composition lessons at all levels. My approach is neuroaffirming and participant-led.

I have a focus on ADHD, Autism, C-PTSD & OCD, but have worked with folks with BPD, PMDD, BP-II, OSPD and more.
Being hard on yourself isn't working anymore. No matter how high your expectations or how hard you try to be perfect, you find yourself back in the same place. You're trying to be kinder to yourself, but this world never taught you how. You might feel isolated or like the people around you don't understand you. And no matter how hard you work in your relationships, it doesn't seem to be improving them. You're looking for someone to help you go deep and get to the root of these issues. Someone who can help you catch your breath and be in the moment. Whether you're finding yourself or getting back to yourself, I'd love to help.

It would be great to find support to navigate the ups and downs without having to constantly educate your therapist about your experiences, and what it means to live in your body. You're looking for someone who will really listen, who affirms you and cares about your well-being and who will be there to help you define your life on your own terms.

As a queer and neurodivergent person, I enjoy working within these communities and have experience within both.
Human’s have an innate need to be seen, held, and accepted for their reality. Through relationship we offer mirrors to each other, and these mirrors help us build a strong sense of self and grow from our life experiences. Without these mirrors individuals can start to feel invisible. Therapy can help people reflect on many elements of their lives including daily struggles, past or current traumas, systemic violences, spiritual and existential unknowns, neurodivergence, illness, and disability to name a few. In Drama therapy we use talking as well as creativity to help you feel seen and also allow you to play with your reflection.

I am a queer, trans, neurodivergent and a parent.
My early work with street-entrenched Indigenous communities in Winnipeg Manitoba shaped my commitment to intersectional, anti-oppressive practice. My M.S.W. research at McGill explored queer theory and trauma in transgender populations, informing a grounded and compassionate approach. I bring both lived experience and clinical depth to trauma-informed care.

What is the most effective treatment for autism?
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) has come to be considered the standard treatment for children with autism spectrum disorder, and research has confirmed its effectiveness for many children. Therapists trained in ABA techniques work with children (and their parents) on developing social skills, communication and learning abilities, and everyday habits of hygiene and grooming. The clinician will tailor their program to the child’s particular need but the overarching goal will be to help them advance as far as possible toward independence based on their level of symptoms and decrease the need for additional special services. Families should seek a mental health professional specifically trained in ABA, and holding special certification in the technique, who has extensive experience not only with the approach but in using it with children with the same level of symptoms as the child who needs care.

How does ABA work?
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) sessions, which typically focus on positive reinforcement, can be intensive, lasting two or more hours several times a week, and continuing for two years or more. Therapists can also be expected to ask parents to take an active role in reinforcing lessons. Research has found that the technique can lead to major improvements that decrease the need for additional special services.

How does treatment for autism work?
Therapy sessions based on Applied Behavior Analysis will likely be frequent, intensive, and highly structured. After a thorough assessment, a therapist will help a child understand and develop skills in a range of areas, including communication, motor skills, social skills, self-care, play, and academic skills, as well as routines of daily living like hygiene. Typically, the therapist will help a child break down the components of a behavior—often referred to as the antecedent (what prompts an action), the behavior, and the consequence(what immediately follows)—and then reward the child at every step, while also asking parents to reinforce the lessons, and the rewards, throughout the day. This core therapy may be supplemented by occupational or speech therapy, and antidepressants, antipsychotics, and anticonvulsants may be prescribed to address specific severe symptoms.

How long does therapy for autism take?
Some people with autism spectrum disorder may be engaged in some level of therapy for many years, but research shows that treatment will be most effective if it is begun early and delivered intensively. When therapy begins by age 3, children tend to be better able to grasp and adopt the skills needed to manage everyday life, including attending school and establishing social relationships. This type of early-intervention treatment regimen is highly structured, typically involving 20 to 40 hours of one-on-one therapy per week, along with additional hours of engagement managed by parents, for a period of two years or more, although the duration of treatment is dependent on the child’s level of symptoms and pace of progress.
