As an attachment-based therapist, I strongly believe that the quality of our relationships is central to the quality of our lives.
I have over 25 years experience, and extensive training specializing in therapy with people whose relationships have become places of fear, insecurity, and loneliness, where bonds of emotional safety, trust and intimacy have gradually eroded. I offer a short-term, emotionally focused approach (EFT) that's scientifically proven and highly successful in creating greater closeness, a way back to the heart of your relationship. When the connection that you'd hoped to depend on forever seems lost, replaced by distance and confusion, I can help you rekindle intimacy and compassion, a secure bond you can depend on even in hard times.

Through a creative blend of existential and attachment-based self-inquiry, coupled with trauma-informed mindfulness practices, clients can better understand the relationship between identity, stress, their emotional responses.
I welcome older children (aged 11+), youth, and adults to my practice. Through discussion or creative process, we carve out a space to hear from your voice of awareness, and from there, identify your needs and goals. From stuck habits to difficult relationship dynamics, we can identify parts of your life that both are and are not serving you; so as to strengthen the parts of you that nurture the more positive aspects, while working to better understand and manage the aspects that may be holding you back.

I draw from trauma-focused, attachment-based, and relational approaches, adapting sessions to each client's needs.
I work with clients navigating chronic illness, loss of autonomy, parenting stress, immigration or relational strain, or the aftermath of violence. Some are managing complex caregiving roles or family transitions; others are simply trying to get through the day under the weight of long-term stress. I work with people seeking clarity and steadiness—especially when life feels uncertain, overwhelming, or out of sync. IVAC and NIHB clients are welcome to contact me.

Attachment-based Counsellors

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
