Navigating through life, relationships, or loss can feel hard and isolating. It does not have to stay this way. Are you in a new or established relationship, wondering why you aren’t feeling happy? Perhaps it's difficult to talk with or be heard by your partner(s) and you keep having the same disagreements over and over again. Maybe you’re feeling more stress and anxiety day-to-day than calmness, peace, security or confidence. Have you experienced a life changing loss, and find yourself grasping for air beneath the depths and unpredictability of grief and sorrow? If you recognize yourself, you are at the right place.

In addition to relational issues, I help people cope with depression, anxiety , stress, burn-out, losses, illnesses, and self-esteem.
Therapy can help people better understand themselves and find greater meaning in their lives. People enter therapy for a wide range of reasons, often involving difficulty solving a problem in their lives on their own. Some people, for example, are having difficulty in a romantic relationship and wonder how to improve the relationship, or end it. Other people experience conflict or anxiety in a wide range of interpersonal relationships and enter therapy as a means of improving their communication skills and the quality of their relationships. I help people in both monogamous and polyamorous relationships.

If you’re living with anxiety , depression, grief, or stress, I am here to support you. It can be extremely challenging - both within ourselves and in our most important relationships – to develop intimacy, connect, and communicate in a way that is aligned with our core values and true needs. You don’t need to do this alone. My clinical practice can offer you a non-judgemental space to explore issues and develop pragmatic skill-building to address underlying needs. Together we can identify your core values and priorities, and tailor a corresponding treatment plan.

Would you like to stand in your power, be more in control of your life? To solve a problem, Einstein said you must first change the mindset that created it. It starts “within” you! Having worked with thousands of clients over 17 years, I’ve observed that we have 2 voices in our head - the conscious and subconscious minds. When your 2 voices don't get along, it feels like a battle is raging within, and it’s this gap that causes your anxiety , depression, fears , and emotional struggles; but when your 2 voices align in harmony, you experience inner strength, joy, passion, your TrueSelf, and feel energized in the pursuit of your desires.

I specialize in the treatment of depression, anxiety and stress.
The goal for my clients is to help them understand and apply solutions that the field of psychology can offer. My approach is rooted in cognitive behavior therapy, with the flexibility of utilizing other approaches tailored to clients' needs or the specificity of the problem. An important element of therapy is positive psychology, encompassing personal growth and human development. Combined, these therapeutic orientations help clients develop thoughts and actions to help manage difficult situations or challenges they are facing. Importantly I also help clients gain new skills to feel better about themselves and the decisions they make in life.

I provide evidence-based psychotherapy to adults for a wide range of issues, including anxiety , depression, relationship difficulties, grief, burn out, time management, and goal setting. I have worked in both University Mental Health settings, and private practices in the Montreal and Toronto areas. I am familiar with the unique challenges of both students and professionals alike. What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
