While we often think that pregnancy and having a baby is a blissful time, it isn't always and I'm determined to help
women
and families know that it's nothing about which they should feel ashamed.
Sometimes "expecting" is not what you expect! If you are thinking about having a baby, struggling to conceive, are pregnant or are within your first year postpartum and are concerned about your experience, I can help. Sometimes too and tragically, pregnancies don't always end with a happy outcome. Whichever situation you are facing, I can offer you both individualized support or in a group setting so that you don't feel alone and isolated in your current struggle. I work collaboratively with my clients and my style is very conversational. I want you to feel comfortable and at ease in coming to therapy.

I enjoy helping
women
to 'find their voice' in relationships, and helping men to find more intimacy and connection, by healing from dysfunctional patterns and learning new ways to communicate and interact.
I have been a practicing psychotherapist for 30 years, and have expertise in treating individuals experiencing a wide range of difficulties. These include relationship issues,
women
's issues, life transitions, low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, emotional abuse, childhood trauma and grief. My approach, while primarily psychodynamic, includes cognitive strategies, mindfulness and active, creative strategies.

I provide support and guidance to girls and
women
to fully and authentically come into themselves. I understand the complexities of the daily experince of being
female
in our society and how difficult it is for
women
to be strong, caring and assertive in our society. I take a
women
-centered approach to mental health and do not label behaviors and emotions as disordered but to understand these as responses in the context of your life. I strive to help my clients understand that we have to face our discomfort first before we can let it go. This takes great courage and vulnerability on your part.

Life sometimes imposes overwhelming challenges that cause us feel lost and believe there is no choice but to suffer. When we are in the midst of a crisis it is not always easy to see a way out. However, in these circumstances, there is often an opportunity for personal growth. It is at this time that a professional may help you identify inner obstacles preventing you from moving forward and experiencing life to its fullest. I see my role as helping clients with that. My clinical practice focuses on individuals and couples from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds, struggling with relationship issues, anxiety, and depression.

Are you anxious, depressed, or struggling to really feel connected to yourself? Do your emotions feel too intense? Are old patterns or past experiences holding you back or negatively influencing how you deal with situations in the present? In therapy, you can have a space to express yourself and to gain clarity on your thoughts and emotions. Together we can explore aspects of your reality that are harder to define and that go beyond what you already know and can explain about yourself. This can lead you to that exciting place where new insights and self-awareness emerge, and change can happen in your life.

There are points in all our lives when we need outside help. Understanding your emotions and behaviors that are informed by past experiences and negatively affect your self-esteem and relationships with others is challenging. Often we want to change but don't know how. Developing a therapeutic alliance where you feel safe expressing and exploring all the parts of yourself- the good & the bad, is a valuable gift you can give to yourself. I value helping clients to explore the complexity of their beings, process pain, and use their struggles as opportunities for personal awakening and change.

Multicultural and bilingual, I have lived and worked in different countries and cultures including France, USA, Tunisia, Switzerland and Quebec. This has taught me that the search for meaning and wholeness and human connection is universal. However, in today's fast paced wired world, both inner and outer pressures make it easy to lose track of these values, to disconnect from our own needs , our inner voice and from authentic relationships with others. Depressions, anxiety, even certain health issues are just some of the inevitable symptoms that may emerge to make us stop and question our trajectory.

Female Counsellors
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
