I am a licensed couple and family therapist and psychotherapist. In 2019, I was the recipient of the clinical excellence award for couple and family therapy from McGill University. I received a Master's in psychology in 2009. My area of focus is on helping people understand their relationship patterns and helping them build more meaningful and stable connections with others. I understand that right now you may feel that as though you have too much on your plate and that you are struggling to balance all of life's demands. Many people do not take the time to focus on themselves and invest in their emotional well- being.

Sometimes when we are distressed, we can lose sight of the things that are most important to us. When we are feeling unwell our energy often becomes focused on managing negative feelings and living a satisfying life can become difficult. Do you often feel anxious, sad, hopeless, or overwhelmed? Perhaps you are feeling stuck or just unsatisfied with your life right now. I can help you understand the processes that have contributed to and maintain your suffering, and support you in reconnecting with your values to live a more satisfying life.

I have experience working with queer and trans folks, individuals living with HIV/AIDS, substance users, those experiencing grief or feeling lost and people having trouble regulating mood, behaviour, and anxiety.
No theatrical experience is necessary to benefit from drama therapy. I use techniques and activities to help clients externalize their problems creatively using props, storytelling, drawing, collage, metaphor, role-play, and improvisation. The amount of verbal exchange varies depending on the needs, wants and comfort levels of the client.

I believe that each us carries inherent goodness inside of us, and sometimes we can become stuck. As a therapist, I see my role as creating a space where you can feel supported to explore the parts of you that are hurting and also to nurture your own inner compassion and wisdom. Working from a non-pathologizing approach, I believe that all behaviour meets a need. The work of therapy is to develop a deeper understanding of what purpose protective mechanisms like addiction, anxiety, and self-harm have played in your life, and what you need to feel supported to grow and change.

I’m a queer AuDHD therapist passionate about working with neurodivergent folks who have grown up feeling misunderstood, and are seeking a place where they don’t have to mask.
We’d be a good fit if you or your child need support with issues related to overwhelm, severe anxiety, burnout, traumatic experiences, identity struggles, or having relationship issues with dynamics, communication and intimacy. There is no “supposed tos” in therapy with me, you can show as you are (stimming, fidgety, nerdy, shy, queer and all).

LGBTQ+ Counsellors
Do LGBTQ-affirmative therapists receive special training?
Yes. Many therapists who practice LGBTQ-affirmative therapy have completed specialised training, either during their degree programme or as continuing education, to learn the core principles of affirmative therapy and how to best support their LGBTQ clients; some have received certifications in LGBTQ-affirmative therapy. Prospective clients should inquire as to a clinician’s background and training to ensure a good fit.
Why might I want to see an LGBTQ-affirming or LGBTQ-friendly therapist?
Queer and gender-non-conforming individuals frequently experience bias and marginalisation in day-to-day life. Working with a therapist who understands these unique challenges, as well as accepts and affirms their identity, can help LGBTQ clients feel safe and supported during therapy—allowing them to better navigate their relationships, mental health, and anything else that they wish to explore during therapy. It is important to note that many therapists can be effective in their work with LGBTQ+ individuals, even in the absence of specific training or background knowledge. The most important component in therapy is the alliance between therapist and client, and this alliance can exist between individuals with very different backgrounds.
How can I find an LGBTQ-friendly therapist?
You may wish to inquire about a therapist’s expertise with your specific challenges or concerns—depression, for example, or relationship strife—as well as their past experiences treating LGBTQ+ clients. Prospective clients may also ask whether a therapist has obtained additional training and/or certification in LGBTQ-affirmative techniques.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with LGBTQ issues?
Prospective clients should feel empowered to directly ask therapists whether they have received training or been certified in LGBTQ-affirming therapy; competent therapists will be happy to explain their educational background and preferred approach(es) to help a client find the best match for them. Clients may also wish to ask how a therapist has treated clients with their particular challenges in the past and what they expect treatment to look like.
Are all the therapists listed in the LGBTQ directory themselves members of the LGBTQ community?
While therapists may choose to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity in their profiles, the LGBTQ directory features not only those who have shared this information but also those who assert specialised training or experience in providing support to queer individuals, couples or families.
