I work with individual adult clients who are interested in exploring new ways to understand and meet the challenges in their lives. My approach is psychodynamic; through in-depth dicussion in a supportive relationship, we focus on better understanding patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving, both conscious and unconscious. We consider early life experiences and how they have shaped your sense of self and ways of relating to others. I see therapy as a mutual effort, between therapist and client, to better understand someone’s anxieties and struggles, and to support them in figuring out what they want.

My training includes, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, (AEDP) Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy, (EFT) Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples, (MBCT) Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy.
Everybody from an early age develops a 'story'. The story becomes an accumulation of everything that we experience. Made up of thoughts, emotions and feelings. All stories are similar, how we learn to live with our experiences makes our story unique. We learn to identify, believing that we are our story, creating situations and patterns in our lives that often become problematic. Psychotherapy is extremely beneficial if you are experiencing low self esteem, depression, anxiety, trauma, loss, loneliness, anger, forgiveness, relationship difficulties, parenting challenges and family struggles.

I offer deeply compassionate client-centered services for adolescents and adults. I am trained in the evidence-based models of Psychodynamic, ACT, CBT, and Narrative therapy as well as the Creative Arts Therapies, with an expertise in Drama Therapy (Role theory, Psychodrama, Improv, etc.). I interweave these modalities to best suit my client’s needs. My therapy approach goes beyond talk therapy, to also be embodied, creatively expressive, and somatically based. In this way emotions, memories, and presenting issues are explored and processed not only with words but with movement, metaphors, play, and body relaxation techniques.

With a culturally responsive and trauma-focused lens, I take an integrative approach to therapy by drawing on psychodynamic and humanistic frameworks that've been proven effective.
Starting therapy can feel like embarking on a journey into uncharted territory. It's confronting overwhelming challenges like the persistent weight of anxiety, the pervasive cloud of depression, the tension of stress, or the intricate interplay of life’s multifaceted issues that often drives us to seek therapeutic support. Making the decision to start therapy marks a pivotal moment in the pursuit of self-discovery and healing. Entering therapy is a testament to resilience. It's about bravely confronting internal struggles with the hope of finding relief, understanding, and ultimately, positive change.

Psychoanalytic (or psychodynamic) therapy can help us to become more acquainted with our thinking patterns and behaviors so we can better understand the obstacles that may be standing in our way. With time, we can gain new perspectives and develop the capacity to deal with life's twists and turns, and meet our needs over the long-term.

Through an integrative framework rooted in Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, humanistic therapies (Gestalt, Emotion Focused Therapy), psychodynamic, attachment theory, and Buddhist psychology, I use evidence-based interventions to help guide you through difficult emotions, self-discovery, recovery, and to build new perspectives.
Genuine, non-judgemental, and empathetic by nature, I am passionate about helping people navigate some of life’s most difficult struggles. My passion for psychotherapy stems from witnessing our resiliency when given the proper support and a safe place to heal. In my practice, I meet clients where they're at and aim to walk alongside them as a supportive guide in their therapeutic journey. For some, therapy is about healing past trauma or working through emotionally turbulent times; for others, it's about finding closure, self discovery, or confiding in someone unrelated to their circumstance.

I borrow from psychodynamic and attachment based theories, appreciating the importance and impact of our earliest impressions and primary relationships.
I am registered with the College of Psychologists (CPO) and all of my services include clinical supervision with CPO registered Psychologists, which inform my continued professional development. Research in the area of 'common factors' emphasizes the client-therapist relationship and factors that are unique to you and your life circumstances as important predictors for therapy success, and it informs my approach to support you in creating positive change. I meet clients non-judgmentally, and my approach is uniquely dynamic, collaborative, and solution-focused, with therapeutic presence and authenticity.

I implement techniques borrowed from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, and Mindfulness-based Interventions.
One of the many things I can appreciate about our society is how people come from different walks of life - we all have a story. These stories, or worldviews, are what shape our personalities and how we perceive and overcome the various obstacles that life may throw at us. I also understand how beginning therapy can be daunting, so I provide a validating and non-judgemental environment with the goal of making clients as comfortable as possible. Helping clients explore their emotions and navigate any problems they may have, together, has always been a passion of mine.

I use a psychodynamic (aka psychoanalytic) approach which is based on deep exploration and bringing otherwise unconscious patterns into awareness.
I often work alongside people who feel that they don’t quite fit in: Teens and young adults who would identify themselves as creatives, and who have a unique set of struggles and strengths. Some are dealing with issues related to identity and self-understanding, and others are doing their best to manage the depth and complexity of their emotional landscape. I see a lot of deep thinkers, over-analyzers, perfectionists, and clients battling self-doubt and imposter syndrome. Anxiety and/or ADHD symptoms can be intertwined with these struggles.

My training and areas of practice include CBT, DBT skills, Psychodynamic/Trauma informed, Parenting, Couple/Family therapy, Group work.
The reasons for pursuing counselling are as unique as the individual seeking it out. There could be questions around an emerging identity, a difficult relationship or social issue, a separation/divorce or a child’s school difficulties or emotional distress. Whatever the presenting issue is for clients, there is most often over- whelming feelings of worry, sadness and confusion.

My work draws on the humanistic, existential and psychodynamic traditions of Western psychology, and is grounded in the wisdom of Eastern philosophies, somatic work, mindfulness and meditation.
Suffering is an inherent part of the human experience. In the course of a lifetime, crises happen, unpredictable challenges arise, and in response we develop habit patterns that are often protective but also inhibit our growth and freedom. Therapy will help clear the path so that you can see a way forward. I walk that path with you and provide a container for self-exploration and inquiry. I work with mood disturbances, trauma, attachment issues, self-esteem, and spiritual emergence. Depth therapy is a journey that will take you into yourself and lead you back to yourself while being witnessed by a safe, compassionate presence.

Psychodynamic Counsellors

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
