Life is filled with meaning and purpose, yet it often presents challenges and distractions that divert us. As a dedicated intern psychotherapist, my passion lies in helping individuals overcome personal obstacles to uncover inspiration and meaning, heal wounded emotions, and cultivate self-confidence, self-worth, and resilience. The foundation of my work is trust; built so people feel accepted, safe, and heard. By integrating my life's learning and experience, I aim to help people recover their strengths and empower them to live a life with positive intentions.

Hello! I’m so glad you’re here. As a dedicated clinical mental health counsellor, I aim to create a safe and supportive environment where you feel seen, heard, and supported. I believe that everyone has the potential for growth and healing. We are all human, and we all struggle at times. Sometimes it takes someone outside of your inner circle to be in your corner for you as you seek change, gain clarity and perspective, navigate what works best for you, and become empowered. I am here to be that for you. I am here for you to share feelings, stories, worries, and even sometimes a much-needed laugh.

As of April 1st, I will be taking on in-person clients down Fredericton. It can be difficult to reach out to a professional to open up about your inner world and learning to trust a therapist can be unnerving. A lot of people see therapy as a one-sided conversation, with little to no opportunity for interaction or authentic connection. Although calling a therapist can be intimidating, I don't believe therapy has to be an intimidating process. I can assure you that as a practitioner, I use a warm empathic approach to connect. Life is too precious to surrender to unhealthy relationships, low self-worth, addiction, and trauma.

Struggling at home or in your relationships doesn’t mean you’re failing—it means something important needs attention. I work with couples navigating communication issues, conflict, and patterns that keep repeating. I support parents who want a calmer home and a stronger connection with their kids, including big emotions, bedtime challenges, anxiety-driven behaviours, and ongoing power struggles. I also help individuals with anxiety, stress, people-pleasing, boundary challenges, and relationship difficulties at home or at work.

When it comes to how I practice therapy, I believe that everyone can benefit from speaking to someone, and sometimes we need to speak to someone who is not directly affected by our processing. I also believe that most people can work through their issues on their own and may benefit from extra support to be a sounding board, give tools and strategies, and offer encouragement and compassion. That's where I come in. Together we can carve out a space in your busy life to work through whatever is going on and to create positive change.

Everyone deserves to find a space where they can explore their challenges comfortably without fear of judgment. When we find the right space, we are able to let our guard down and turn our attention inward. It's in these moments that we notice shame, depression, anxiety and avoidance, among other coping mechanisms at play. My counselling philosophy is trauma-informed in that I believe there is a survival function behind the difficult emotions, behaviours and thoughts that we experience. I also believe that understanding how these adaptive coping mechanisms are serving us, helps us to move forward with our goals and values.

My passion is helping people who have sustained relational, attachment, and intergenerational trauma through childhood neglect, and/or sexual, emotional, physical, and spiritual abuse and assaults at any point throughout the lifespan. This trauma often shows up later in life as: intrusive thoughts, emotions, body sensations and flashbacks; an overall experience of sadness, shame, depression, anxiety, anger, loneliness; addictive, avoidant, and compulsive behaviours; and a loss of a sense of Self. It's important to know that there is nothing wrong with you! This is a normal response to terrible things that have happened to you.

Jo has been working as a counsellor since 2010, supporting clients from many different walks of life, including children and youth, families, and adults. Having worked with clients across the life-span, she recognized that many of the challenges that youth and adults face stem from developmental trauma. This occurs when individuals do not have their basic physical and/or emotional needs met in early childhood. This led Jo to seek out the best methods to provide early intervention to treat young children who have been impacted by trauma as well as work with their families to prevent further trauma exposure.
