I believe most people can benefit from art therapy. There are many reasons someone might be interested in trying art therapy. Art therapy is a place to bring whatever needs voice and movement in the moment. One common intention for those seeking therapy is that they hope to feel/see change. The art making itself acts as tangible evidence for that change. We can literally see where we started, how far we have come and where we are currently.

Today’s world is a challenging place and the stresses that come from it are often unavoidable. Stress can affect your body, your thoughts, feelings and behaviour. How we respond to our stress is what is important. If we learn to respond positively, we can learn and grow in ways we had never imagined. My goal is to support you on your journey to better psychological, physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. I have particular interest in the areas of anxiety and stress management, disordered eating and body image, domestic violence, communication and healthy relationships.

I believe in the importance of meeting you where you are in this moment in time. My experience is with individuals who seek self-improvement, empowerment, and healing from childhood and/or relationship trauma. We can work collaboratively to examine what is getting in the way of the life you want to live and how to move forward. Trauma informed care is provided in a collaborative approach with a focus on strengths and connection.

Effective regulation occurs in the context of healthy relationships, which is something we ideally learn through our early experiences. When people experience anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, lost intimacy, communication and conflict issues, low self-esteem, addictions and substance abuse, parenting difficulties, and work and school issues, just to name a few, the root cause is commonly the result of a dysregulated nervous system. I specialize in helping clients understand their experience through the lens of attachment, trauma, learned behavior, and adaptive nervous system regulation.

Supporting individuals, children, couples and families through life transitions, relationship issues, and other barriers that keep us from ‘thriving’, has always been my goal.  I have done this through extensive work in the non-profit sector (both in Canada and India), and now as a Registered Provisional Psychologist (R.Psych Provisional). I strive to create a non-judgmental therapeutic relationship in which clients feel safe, understood, and with a vision of what ‘stepping forward with hope’ might look like to them.

What keeps us feeling like we are in limbo/stuck? Unresolved issues and traumas can keep us feeling and/or thinking that we are not progressing as we'd like, resulting in many feelings of being overwhelmed, burned out, and experiencing physical/emotional pains. Over 18 years of clinical experience, I can help you to discover and identify the core issues/patterns/beliefs, while inspiring hope and courage while you walk a more integrated path living life with more joy and abundance; with feelings of rejuvenation and release; and with an expanded self-awareness, emotional balance, and clearer thinking.

Welcome! As a Certified Health & Wellness Coach, clients typically work with me around a desire for change. Sometimes people arrive knowing the desired change and other times discovering this change is the place they want to start. Our work could be around deepening your understanding of yourself, processing current experiences, building wellness into your life, building new habits, cultivating confidence/self-compassion, or getting "unstuck". The possibilities really are endless! My approach is a balance between facilitating discovery, regaining power, and making choices that allows movement towards your desired life.

Tansi and hello!! I am a holistic counsellor, I work very hard to do all my own work on my own self so that if there is something I would like you to try its because I believe in it and have seen it work on my own in my life. I myself am a recovered dual addict of crystal meth and I use my own life story to help others and see where they are at with their own struggles, especially if they struggle with connecting to their culture as Indigenous peoples who have majority been displaced. I work with all other demographics as well, different cultures and beliefs, as the work that I do is strength based and client focused.

How does positive psychology therapy work?

Positive psychology therapy derives from the work of Martin Seligman of the University of Pennsylvania. He and others developed the field of positive psychology building on humanistic theory. Positive psychology therapy is similar to acceptance and commitment therapy, and it essentially quiets emotional distress through positivity, contentment, and well-being. This therapy does not reduce the individual to symptoms and conditions.

When do I know if I need treatment using positive psychology?

If an individual is overwhelmed by emotional distress and general negativity, they may feel trapped. A positive psychology therapist can help them view their emotions and behaviours differently, and approach life with a better understanding of their positive strengths. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from positive psychology therapy?

The patient may be asked to explore their signature strengths. The therapist will also ask the individual to talk about their goals, which should be specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timely. Discussing negative experiences and symptoms is important, but so is the exploration of positive experiences. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviours and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more positive and fulfilling way. This therapy is proactive and may use forgiveness, gratitude, hope, and compassion to help reframe negativity.

Is positive psychology effective in therapy?

Positive psychology therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with eating disorders benefit from this type of intervention. This therapy encourages the person to reframe their distressed thoughts and move into healthier patterns of functioning. This therapy also aims to move an individual toward what works well in their life. Positive psychology therapy can elicit lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioural habits.
