My work is relational, emotion-focused, and experiential. Relational means establishing a unique and real connection with people — i.e. not being a “blank slate” therapist. Emotion-focused means helping people pay attention to old emotional patterns that may no longer be serving them. Experiential means going beyond just talking about patterns. It means offering actual in-session experiences of doing things a different way — working together to form new and preferred patterns that are conducive to one’s therapy goal(s).
In addition to my graduate training at the University of British Columbia (UBC), I have received advanced training and supervision in Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP). AEDP is an attachment-based, experiential treatment model ideally suited to address and treat relational trauma.
Prior to becoming a psychotherapist, I worked as a behavioural coach at a health & wellness centre in California. And, prior to that, I was a front-line outreach worker on Vancouver's Downtown Eastside. In my life, I have worked exclusively in helping roles.
