To conceptualize therapy, the following might be a helpful picture. Recently, we decided to hatch our own chickens. After a couple of weeks, we candled the eggs to get a glimpse inside. The glimpse was amazing and mysterious—we could see life happening beneath the shell. This is what often happens in a counselling session; we look beneath the “shell” and get a glimpse of the mystery and complexity of the human experience. From this deeper looker inside, we have many choices and changes that are possible.

I'm here to see your struggle and hear your story. In my practice I value the opportunity to work with individuals who are experiencing grief and loss, depression and anxiety, parenting and family challenges, and the impacts of trauma. As a clinical counsellor and a mother I offer support to women throughout motherhood, addressing concerns for postpartum depression and anxiety, transitioning to motherhood, intimate partner challenges, burnout, pregnancy and postpartum loss, and processing birth trauma. I'm a genderqueer trans counsellor who works with adults, youth, and families to gently explore difficulties while affirming the ways people are already working towards their own healing. Right now we are dealing with a lot: COVID-19, the ongoing and escalating police violence against Black and Indigenous peoples, as well as the ongoing racism against Asian and South Asian communities and Hispanic and Latin communities. In these times we need to find ways to support each other through the isolation, uncertainty and hardships. I offer several sliding scale options to make counselling as accessible as possible.

My approach incorporates using knowledge of human design and development to provide a supportive framework from which to normalize and understand concerning emotional experience. I generally employ Schema Therapy to aid clients to identify self-limiting core beliefs and their origins. Somatic (body) awareness may be offered to enhance client awareness. This is an optional, skill-based, self-delivered aspect of treatment. Clients desiring to understand troubling emotional responses to situations, including relationships, stress, depression and anxiety, have consistently benefitted from the above approach.

Mind-Body Health: I assist people in developing three fundamental human "systems" of Mind, Body, and Spirit/Energy. These three interactive Systems work at the same time, like three cogs in a machine, and are somewhat unique to each person according to their outlook on life and the context they find themselves in. For example the Fear around COVID has brought forth additional stressors to impact these Systems by activating the sympathetic nervous system (the fight/flight/freeze stress response). Together we will develop practical life "experiments" to better activate these Systems for psychological flexibility (e.g., meditation)

I specialize in the areas of anxiety, depression, and addiction. In my experience, anxiety and depression often show up together. When they take hold, we frequently fall into traps of addiction in efforts to numb the emotional pain. Addictions can be an effective short-term strategy, but they are not a solution that brings healing. Instead, they increase the pre-existing symptoms, usually adding a whole new set of problems as well. Whether it is a gambling addiction, an online gaming addiction, a shopping addiction, pornography addiction, a substance use addiction (etc), my training and skills are focussed on your healing, growth, and freedom.

Life can throw some unexpected curve balls that can impact us in ways we did not anticipate. This can range from certain family dynamics that have shaped and impacted us in ways that is less than desirable to traumatic or distressing events that are impacting us on a daily basis. Such incidents could have taken place throughout life within the context of your social network, workplace or learning environments, church or religious affiliated organizations or even whilst driving. Through the use of various therapies we focus on reducing or eliminating impact and hopefully restoring life balance.
