The children and adolescents I work with present with a variety of mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, self-esteem, or self-harming behaviours. They might be struggling to manage their emotions and behaviours and may want some assistance to achieve their individual therapeutic goals. It is also common for parents to want to learn ways in which they can best support their child during this difficult time.

Accepting new appointments for video sessions. I am committed to building a relationship that supports your unique needs, develops your strengths and fosters your innate ability to heal. Often, we aren’t afforded the time, opportunity or privilege to learn the most beneficial ways to sift through what comes our way. We tackle things as best we can using strategies learned from previous experiences. In some situations, our default strategies end up taking us further away from what we want. This can prevent us from fulfilling our needs - we may get stuck not knowing how to cope or how to move forward.

To grow and to heal. This is a choice we can make. If you are reading this, you have already taken a step in that direction. Perhaps you are wondering if therapy can help you take some more steps. These steps can be in many directions – doing better, achieving goals, reducing distress, managing difficult emotions, understanding unhelpful patterns, dealing with relationship issues, coming to terms with the issues of the past, or seeking answers to life’s challenging questions. We arrive in therapy with our own unique expectations. My goal is to help you take the steps towards meeting those expectations.

I believe strongly in helping clients become their own therapists. I work with people feeling stuck in unhelpful thinking patterns, worn down by uncomfortable emotions, and who find themselves returning to behaviours that they perceive to be unfulfilling or even destructive. My primary therapeutic orientation is cognitive-behavioural, but I also have experience incorporating evidence-based approaches like mindfulness, self-compassion, emotion regulation skills, and motivational interviewing (MI). Treatment is tailored to the needs and goals of each person. My practice is LGBTQ positive, trauma-informed, and weight inclusive.

I have been a psychotherapist for over 25 years specializing in a variety of issues including child trauma, sexuality, relationships, eating disorders, anxiety, and depression. My approach is highly empathic, encouraging, and practical. I go between understanding how your difficulties developed by talking about your history and exploring what you may be able to do in the present to feel better. I'm very tuned in and present and usually understand pretty quickly what is going on for you and why. I offer a lot of compassion and feedback to help you move forward. You are not alone with me.

Peer Relationships in L2S

Teens want to be with people their own age - their peers. During their adolescent years, teens and tweens often spend more time with their peers than with their parents. Through their peer relationships, they can be both connected and independent, as they grow away from their parents' images of them and develop identities of their own. Peers provide a place for accepting the feelings, thoughts and actions that come with the search for identity.

Positive Peer Pressure in L2S

The ability to develop healthy friendships and peer relationships depends on a teen's self-identity and self-esteem. Peer pressure can encourage your teen's energy and motivate your teen to conform to healthy behavior. Peers can act as positive role models and demonstrate constructive social behavior. Peers listen to, accept, and understand the frustrations, challenges, and concerns of being a tween or teenager.

Negative Peer Pressure in L2S

The need for acceptance, approval, and belonging can lead some teens or tweens to engage in risky behavior in order to fit in with a group-contrasting values they may otherwise reject. In such situations, peer pressure can impair judgment and enable risk-taking behavior, drawing a teen away from the family and positive influences. Some teens harbor secret lives --including those who appear to be well-behaved, high-achieving teens when they are with adults -and engage in negative behavior when with their peers.

If you're looking for help with child peer relationships in L2S or for a L2S peer relationship Counsellor these professionals provide help understanding the peer relationships of kids or tweens, or teen peer relationship counselling in L2S and peer relationship advice. They include peer relationship Counsellors, peer relationship psychologists in L2S and peer relationship counsellors.
