I am currently accepting new clients for in person and telehealth sessions. I work from a person-centered lens, focusing on building a strong therapeutic alliance and offering an empathetic ear; pointing out where you may not be living congruently between who you are and who you want to be, gently encouraging change or self acceptance. With me you will find a therapist whose style is gently challenging, balanced with a sense of humor, patience, and non-judgmental understanding.

In person sessions available - Have you noticed yourself feeling anxious, overwhelmed, stressed, sad or stuck? Perhaps you are going through changes in your life and are finding it difficult to cope. Maybe you feel like it's time to make a change. Reaching out for help can be hard, but know you are not alone. I provide a non-judgmental space so you can feel comfortable to explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences. I strongly believe in meeting you where you are at, for some it's starting to talk about what has been getting in the way of living your best life, for others it is more active work towards making lasting changes.

It can be difficult to reach out to a professional to open up about your inner world. Learning to trust a therapist can be unnerving. A lot of people see therapy as a one-sided conversation, with little to no opportunity for interaction or authentic connection. I can assure you that as a practitioner, I use a warm empathic approach to connect with in a genuine way. Life is too precious to surrender to unhealthy relationships, low self-worth, addiction, and trauma. Although calling a therapist can be intimidating, I don't believe therapy has to be an intimidating process.

My practice focuses on children, adolescents, and young adults (and their families) with a wide range of complex learning needs. We are all complex and we are all life-long learners, but that some people are more complex than others. Anxiety, giftedness, social and academic challenges, and any number of other complexities can result in frustration that affects not only the complex learner, but the entire family. We focus on discovering the unique strengths of each individual so we ca capitalize on those areas while also identifying areas of challenge so we can build on or, as necessary, plan to avoid those areas.

How can I find a therapist in Stratford?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or province where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

How much does therapy cost?

Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $3200 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
