I've received specialized training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Unified Protocol, and Triple P 'positive parenting' program.
Life can present challenges for all of us. Most people will experience some form of depression or anxiety at some point in their life. The support of an empathetic, non-judgmental counsellor can help us to create a plan to move forward when we feel ‘stuck’. If you are experiencing sadness, stress, or worry, I can provide a safe and non-judgmental environment for you to identify the goals that are most important to you, and support you in reaching those goals.

How are you feeling? What are you thinking? What actions are you taking? Why are these things happening? Those are some of the classic questions asked by a therapist, but you’ve already been asking these questions. The answers are different for each person, and for different points in time. You might respond with, "I’m anxious, or sad, or angry", "I’m troubled about the past, or I'm worried about the future", "I’m drinking too much, or I’m distancing my family". Sometimes the answer is, "I don’t know, but I want to figure it out".

I believe in a client’s ability to know intuitively what is troubling them. It’s my responsibility to listen, and to ensure they feel safe, respected and heard. Throughout therapy, positive changes are noticed and discussed, while the work still ahead is reviewed and the end goal regularly described. I am Registered Social Worker, Psychotherapist with a private practice in Toronto. A Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work along with my continual training informs the range of therapeutic models I employ.

It's heartbreaking to watch your child or teen struggle. As a parent or guardian, you know your child best, and can clearly see when they are hurting. Luckily, they have shared a little about their experience, but you still feel uncertain about their needs- powerless to do anything about the problems they face. It feels like things will never change. They have so much potential, and you would hate to see them miss it.

This could mean addressing specific difficulties, (communication, parenting, etc.
Are you in a newer relationship and doubting which direction things are going in? Have you and your partner been facing increased levels of conflict that you are finding more challenging to resolve ? Are you and your partner wondering how to restore things to where they once were? Are you and your partner up against a looming threat of separation and either don't want to give up on the relationship or want to separate in respectful ways that can benefit everyone ?

I'm also a parent of 5, so have some battle scars that goes with the job.
Down to earth and experienced therapist who does his best to help in a meaningful and relatable way. My aim is that by the time we end our first session, you feel a little bit more hopeful and that in time, life starts to make a little more sense. Most of the people who come through my doors struggle with all kinds of issues—relationship difficulties, depression, anxiety, addiction and trauma—and my job is not to solve your problems, but to walk with you through these difficult bumps in the road so you don’t have to walk it alone. I’ve also come to find that a lot of farmers are dropping in… as not many therapists are farmers too.

Parenting Counsellors

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
