Children and youth often experience strong emotions (anxiety, sadness, anger, fear) that are the roots of their behavioral challenges, self- and emotion disregulation, and other adjustment issues. These issues negatively impact their quality of life. Through play and art therapy, I facilitate and witness the unfolding of children's lived experiences. I help them to explore and express their thoughts, emotions and memories that may not be easily expressed using words. Through interacting with their personal symbols in the play or their art, children gain self-acceptance which is the bridge to healing the inner pain and trauma.

I use play and art to facilitate my counselling approach with children. I focus on teaching children coping skills to manage intense emotions. Many children struggle to allow space for both positive and negative emotions. Some people find it difficult to feel any positive emotion such as joy or excitement and others find it difficult to sit with negative emotion such as anxiety or sadness. The reality is, it’s healthiest to be able to feel a broad range of emotions, including the positive and negative.

I work with clients who struggle with "regulation difficulties". When your "motor" is running automatically, too fast or too slow, it is very difficult to respond efficiently and thoughtfully. My clients struggle to be present, are unable to respond appropriately in times of stress, and cannot maintain a direction in life. Some of my clients have difficulties such as Complex Trauma, attachment issues, depression, anxiety and ADHD. This can happen to men, women, children and teens. Learning to be regulated can improve one's ability to focus and to learn, to be able to manage one's life and have deep meaningful relationships.

Our Assessment Team provides psychological and psycho-educational assessment services to young people between 5 and 19 years of age and their families. We also assess university students who are looking to update assessment reports for individual education plans (IEP). Our Assessment Follow-up Team works with the families of children and adolescents after they have completed a psycho-educational assessment to implement recommendations offered in the assessment.
