I hold a deep space for people to explore their cognitive, somatic (body-based), and emotional patterns.
Clients often arrive with various challenges, fears, relational issues, complex feelings, uncertainties, protective layers, vulnerabilities, and a general desire for change. They're aware a shift is needed, though it's unclear what that looks like, or how to get there. They seek a grounded presence; a safe relationship to unpack their experiences - both past and present - and explore how it is their life and relationships (or lack thereof) have come to be. It is from this place we begin the necessary work of untangling complex experiences, drawing on them for insight, self-understanding, compassion, more ease, and empowerment.

We all carry unspoken narratives within. Taking the courageous step into therapy means you are ready to uncover these chapters and genuinely discover what comes next. While our conversations may compassionately explore challenging emotions and difficult patterns, I also believe therapy is a powerful space for relief, growth, and laughter. I believe healing flourishes through authentic human connection. Beyond my professional role, I bring authenticity inspired by my life as a pet owner, art appreciator, foodie, and lifelong learner.

Welcome! I’m Kristen, a Registered Social Worker and Psychotherapist, dedicated to supporting those who often put others first, sometimes at great personal cost. I have a deep respect for the unique realities faced by individuals working in corrections, the military, emergency services, and other first responder roles—people who navigate high-pressure environments and are often the first to respond in moments of crisis. I am equally passionate about supporting adults living with anxiety, trauma, PTSD, grief, loss, or eating disorders. My work is informed by my extensive clinical experience working with these populations.

I draw on Internal Family Systems, Emotionally Focused, Relational-Psychodynamic, Somatic-informed, Applied Polyvagal, and DBT approaches to help you identify patterns and develop secure ways of relating to yourself and those around you.
Many of those I work with feel weighed down by painful past experiences from their childhood or from patterns that keep showing up in their relationships. Others are facing worries and uncertainties while navigating life transitions or experiencing overwhelming emotions. With a focus on challenges related to complex trauma, ADHD, anxiety, self-esteem, relationships, and attachment, I offer a warm and non-judgemental space to focus on uncovering your inner resources; rebuilding trust in yourself; and reconnecting with the parts of you that may feel lost or silenced, at a pace that feels right for you.

Somatic therapy can sound a bit intimidating at first- especially if you're not sure what it means or worry you won't "feel enough
Feeling scattered, stuck, or unsure what you need? Or do you find yourself feeling out of touch with your body? I work with adults with ADHD and those navigating anxiety, grief, identity questions, perfectionism, people-pleasing, relationship struggles, or life transitions. As someone with ADHD, I understand these challenges firsthand. Therapy is a space to slow down, feel seen, clarify your goals, uncover what matters, and take steps toward living authentically. You don’t need perfect words or a plan, just a willingness to start.

I specialize in trauma therapy for children and adolescents, integrating Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), somatic approaches, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and play-based interventions to support nervous system regulation and healing.
Children and teens sometimes carry anxiety, trauma, or dissociation in ways that are difficult to put into words. Parents may notice mood changes, withdrawal, irritability, school challenges, or emotional overwhelm and feel unsure what is happening beneath the surface. You may have tried traditional talk therapy and felt that something deeper still needs attention. You are looking for specialized trauma therapy for your child or teen that honours the nervous system, supports emotional regulation, and creates a safe, developmentally attuned path toward steadiness and healing.

You're doing your best to be everything to everyone—a reliable friend, a loving partner, a high-achieving professional. But lately, it feels like you're running on empty. Deadlines pile up, expectations grow, and it’s hard to tell where one role ends and another begins. You're exhausted but can’t switch off, lying awake with a mind full of “what ifs” and worries. The pressure to hold it all together is starting to crack, and you’re wondering how much longer you can keep this up.

Are you the eldest child who grew up with emotionally immature/unavailable parent(s)? Maybe for the majority of your life you took on responsibilities that were not yours, and you were known as the strong, and mature one since the adult(s) in your life had a hard time managing their feelings. This experience can be lonely, and persistent self-doubt and anxiety may continue to make putting your needs first an ongoing challenge in your personal, and or professional life. You may even struggle with persistent resentment, and guilt. Please know that being strong wasn't wrong, it was smart. Still, survival isn’t the same as healing.

My approach is integrative and tailored, drawing from CBT, DBT, ACT, Narrative, Somatic, and Expressive Arts therapies within a trauma-informed, anti-oppressive lens.
You’re used to holding it together—meeting expectations, showing up for others—but inside, you feel overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected from yourself. On the outside, you may look like you’re functioning, but internally things can feel much heavier. I work with teens, young adults, and adults who feel this way—high-functioning on the outside, but struggling internally with anxiety, self-worth, identity, and relationship challenges. Often, these experiences are shaped by past difficulties, including trauma and how it impacts the way you cope, connect, and see yourself.

ADHD, ODD, anxiety, trauma — school meltdowns, refusal, another call.. this is your child — you feel alone in truly seeing them; exhausted fighting to open their eyes. I see your child - the adult wounds too. I adore wonderfully wired, beautifully complex humans — I am one too. Their fire is safe with me. I jive with intensity of all kinds. Pull up a chair (or exercise ball). Amherstburg, Lasalle & Windsor-Essex — kids, parents & growing adults, you belong here. "So bad" hushed in the hallway, within reach of super ears.. "what is WRONG with me" on repeat. Surviving. — if any of this is your world, I got you. Nobody here is broken.

I believe that personal health encompasses not only the state of the body but our minds, emotions, and thoughts as well. My passion for psychotherapy comes from helping others achieve their goals and fulfill a wholistic picture of health by improving and integrating all areas of their lives. Since I began practicing in the field in 2018, I have discovered that one of the greatest rewards for me is supporting clients in learning new skills and gaining a different perspective often while using a sense of humor. While doing this, my goal is to help them utilize their own strengths and abilities to develop a happier and healthier life.

Somatic Counsellors
How does somatic therapy work?
Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?
Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?
Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
