I've been both the client and the therapist, and I believe strongly in the power of the therapeutic connection. It is an hour just for you; a space to find your voice, understand yourself, gently get out of your own way. I offer a relationship built on trust, curiosity, and open dialogue, where everything is welcome and nothing is off limits. My style is direct and playful, warm and honest. I bring compassion and challenge into the room, and especially enjoy working with clients who are ready for change, even if they don't know what that looks like yet.

Together, we will move through challenging and rewarding conversations/exercises to help bring understanding, movement and healing to whatever is making you feel stuck and unwell. I believe people often seek therapy to gain a deeper understanding of their circumstances and reclaim some control in their lives, especially when they feel lost or overwhelmed. Many of my clients are navigating anxiety, relationship issues, life transitions, or a sense of disconnection from others and/or themselves. They often carry a harsh inner critic within and feel stuck in patterns that no longer serve them, which they wish to change. My aim is to create a safe, non-judgmental space where together we can explore your personal experiences, build self-compassion, and move toward a life that feels more aligned with your values.

With over 20 years of experience as a Clinical Psychologist and Neuropsychologist, I can help equip you with insight and skills to grow beyond the challenges you’re facing, whether anxiety, depression, grief, chronic pain, or stress.
I use cognitive-behavioural therapy and other treatment modalities, but the single biggest predictor of treatment success is a strong and trusting relationship with your therapist. So, no matter who you end up working with in therapy, it’s important to feel a good “fit” with them.

I'm a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) using EMDR with adults in single-incident or complex trauma, and with people living with chronic pain.
EMDR is the core of how I work — a structured, well-researched method that helps your brain reprocess distressing memories so they stop hitting as hard. Because trauma and pain live in the body too, I also use somatic and mindfulness work from my training as a registered yoga teacher. For chronic pain, that often reaches further than talk alone.

Chronic Pain Counsellors
How does chronic pain therapy work?
Engaging with a psychotherapist to help treat chronic pain does not mean that one’s pain is all in their head. Therapy for chronic-pain patients has been shown to benefit both the mind and the body, targeting physical symptoms and increasing daily functioning. In other words, for many, addressing their emotional health through therapy affects their physical health. A therapist can help a client challenge unhelpful thoughts about pain and develop new ways to respond to it, such as distraction or calming breathing techniques. Studies have found that therapy can be as effective as surgery for certain cases of chronic pain and many doctors recommend trying psychotherapy in advance of considering invasive surgery.

What are the most effective treatment options for chronic pain?
Stress, anxiety, depression, catastrophising, ruminating, lack of activity, and social withdrawal all make chronic pain worse. Addressing these issues, research shows, can help people gain control over their pain symptoms. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioural therapy, biofeedback, and mindfulness-based stress reduction, along with greater pain-management education, have been found to help people reduce fear and disability.

Are there new treatments for chronic pain?
Many cases of chronic pain, particularly those involving back pain, remain medically unexplained. But there is evidence that changes in the brain or nervous system are caused by previous physical ailments such as tissue damage; in such cases, the brain may continue to send out pain signals despite the physical cause having healed. To aid patients under these circumstances, a recently developed treatment known as pain reprocessing therapy (PRT) is designed to help the brain “unlearn” this response. A PRT practitioner helps individuals to reduce the “threat value” of their ongoing pain signals until they can reappraise them as less threatening and fear-inducing. They also help an individual to develop new emotional regulation skills.

How long does therapy for chronic pain take?
There is no set timeline for recovery from chronic pain, especially as there may be a range of physical and psychological causes for any individual’s discomfort, but most patients should expect to see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions. Studies of pain reprocessing therapy found that many individuals’ experience of pain lessened in eight sessions over four weeks.
