Life is difficult enough, but relationships that aren't "working" can cause even greater difficulties, such as feeling helpless, hopeless and trapped. Relationships can be difficult if you don't know the rules! As a psychotherapist with over 25 yrs experience walking with individuals, couples, and families through the turbulent times in life. I have been able to help many relationships to heal and be healthier. Sometimes all a person needs is a different way of seeing what is before them, which allows them to deal with an issue that once blocked them from the relationships they desired.

You’re hoping for help, not just a shoulder to cry on or a safe place to complain every week for the rest of your life. Thank you for taking the time to make time for yourself! Therapy can be a difficult and scary process, but I am more than happy to walk alongside you on this journey. My approach to therapy is that therapy can be extremely versatile, and should be tailored to fit you like a brand new outfit. In a non-judgemental and shame free environment, we are able to explore these needs in therapy and help you reach the goals you set out to achieve. Sometimes, all we need is a safe space to explore ourselves, and what has happened in our lives to land us in our current place in the world. My hope is to provide exactly that.

I invite clients to explore and share their feelings and thoughts in a space of curiousity and acceptance. I hope to accommodate the ways that our body internalizes and expresses itself by taking a holistic approach that recognizes these various ways of understanding. This understanding can be stored in the body in various ways—intellectually, behaviourally, somatically (through the body), and even intuitively.

Have you been feeling stuck in a cycle you can’t seem to break out of? Do you experience overwhelming feelings of anxiety, depression, frustration, anger, grief, shame or rejection? Are these feelings negatively impacting your relationships and causing unwanted conflict? Do you feel like a victim of trauma? You may think to yourself: “what’s wrong with me, why can’t I get over this?” Self blaming or avoiding uncomfortable thoughts and feelings may provide temporary relief but will create long-term challenges. Thankfully, there’s a way to change your narrative and experience mental, emotional and relational freedom.

My name is Robert, Psychologist at the Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Disorder and Anxiety Clinic of Ontario. I walk alongside individuals who struggle with anxiety and OCD as they journey through healing and recovery. I work exclusively with patients with anxiety and obsessive-compulsive (OCD) disorder and I dedicate my time away from patients to researching and studying these conditions. I work with my patients on taking that knowledge and putting it into practice by teaching them how to control their anxious or disturbing thoughts, compulsive behaviors, and unsettled mind.

I believe that every person and every relationship is sacred. As a psychotherapist with a background in spiritual care, I aspire to help individuals see the sacred light within themselves. I do not listen to my clients to “fix,” to respond, or to debate with them; rather, I listen to provide presence, connection, and support on their respective journeys.

Male Counsellors

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
