I am well versed in providing counselling services to children, adolescents and adults of all ages. I enjoy working with people who are struggling in the various stages and different aspects of their lives. For adolescents and adults, this could involve understanding and better managing anxiety, depression, grief or unexpected changes. It could also be in a supportive role as clients navigate learning about their new psychiatric diagnosis and how to best manage it. Or it may be working with children teaching them about their emotions, worry and adapting to big changes in their lives. The help I can provide is broad and varies.

If you've been powering through, staying strong and carrying on, but now you're barely getting by and you're tired of feeling like you're not really living your life, it might be time for outside support. The benefit of therapy is that it's a time where you get to focus on yourself, to look at your life, and to get an outside perspective on how it could be different. The ultimate goal in counselling is; to empower a person to reach their fullest potential in life. Counselling is especially important when a person is experiencing problems or difficulties which are affecting his or her quality of life. Lifestyle changes can cause tremendous fear and insecurity in people, especially for those who have unknowingly relied upon ineffective ways of coping with the everyday stresses of life. Turning to a competent and qualified therapist who can provide confidential support and advice about private worries or concerns at times of difficulty, can be most reassuring and helpful.

Now Accepting New Clients. For over twelve years, I worked with children, parents, and families as a behavioural therapist working with ASD. This has led me to now support children, teens and adults who are struggling with anxiety, ADHD, OCD, emotional regulation and eating disorders. I’m also currently specializing in couples and family work targeting co-parenting, communication, disconnection, blended families and amicable separation. I use a holistic, integrative approach to therapy and am trained in CBT, ACT and Gottman. I also like to incorporate hands-on activities and art therapy into my work.

Oppositional Defiance (ODD) Counsellors
What is the most effective treatment for oppositional defiant disorder?
The treatment of oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) will involve multiple approaches designed to help both the youngster and their parents, sometimes including medication. A therapist will help a child learn ways to regulate their emotions, curb their impulsiveness, and counteract anger, defiance, and disruption, while showing parents ways to bring these lessons into their home. A technique designed for children with conditions like ODD, known as Collaborative and Proactive Solutions (CPS), may also be used. CPS addresses a child’s concerns and rewards appropriate responses while discouraging harsh punishment or criticism.
How does treatment for oppositional defiant disorder work?
Treatment for ODD addresses the issues underlying a child’s defiance and disruption, the emotional regulation and impulse-control skills they lack, and the way adults respond to them. ODD therapy is based on the idea that children with the disorder understand the difference between right and wrong, that they want to behave well, and that, with help, they can. By responding to the child with empathy instead of harsh criticism, ignoring nonviolent behaviors, and rewarding positive actions, a therapist, and the other adults in a child’s life, can help children improve their behavior.
How long does therapy for oppositional defiant disorder take?
Therapy for oppositional defiant disorder is not a short-term undertaking. Depending on the severity of a child’s symptoms, their age, the presence of other conditions like ADHD, anxiety or a mood disorder, and their family dynamic, it can take months before improvement is noted. The cooperation of parents and teachers is crucial, because the skills learned in therapy must be practiced in real-world situations, with all their potential triggers.
Does oppositional defiant disorder go away?
ODD can remit following treatment. ODD is often diagnosed in nursery school, and early intervention is essential for a positive prognosis. In two-thirds of children, according to the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, symptoms resolve within three years.
