It's not just you, life HAS gotten harder in the last few years. If you've been powering through, staying strong and carrying on, but now you're barely getting by and you're tired of feeling like you're not really living your life, it might be time for outside support. The benefit of therapy is that it's a time where you get to focus on yourself, to look at your life, and to get an outside perspective on how it could be different. You don't have to just endure, with the right support, you can heal from the past, and move forward towards a better future.

Are you feeling weighed down by the pain of
loss
or trauma? Perhaps you’re experiencing the confusion that arises when life doesn’t go as planned. Or the self-doubt that can come from choices you’ve made in the past. Along with sadness, you might feel anger or a sense of shame. As a survivor of religious trauma, I have lived experience in the process of moving from this dark and lonely place to healing and hope. Whether you find yourself questioning the beliefs you grew up with or those of a group you chose to align with, we can gently bring what makes you uncomfortable into the light of day and move towards a brighter future.

Whether you have been through a life changing experience that you need to work through, or you simply feel that your quality of life could be just a little bit better, I possess a variety of ways to support you. You may need your
grief
to be witnessed, support recovering from a depression relapse, or help with difficult memories. If you are part of the human race, you also have an inner critic that can take over. I am passionate about supporting clients healing after trauma and
grief
in particular. Emotions are a part of daily life; we can learn how to respond to them in ways that stop us from going off track from our true values.

My additional training and research has been focused on
grief
and
bereavement
, forgiveness in couple and family settings, perinatal
loss
, and self compassion.
My approach is grounded in empathy, acceptance, authenticity, and often humour. I believe you are the expert in your life, and I work with you to facilitate change and cultivate meaning in your life. I offer a free consultation and work with individuals, couples, families, children, and youth. I believe therapy should be a safe, non-judgemental space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences while reconnecting with your values, goals, and relationships to align you with your true self. Change can be uncomfortable and frightening. I celebrate your strength to lean into that discomfort on your healing journey.

I am an advanced trauma and
grief
specialist.
Life after trauma can be hard. Really really hard. You never quite go back to feeling like yourself. You experience the world differently- people, places and things can trigger feelings of unsafety. You may be feeling numb, detached or out of body. Other times, you can feel irritable and snap easily. Trauma will impact your ability to trust yourself and those around you. Maybe it's beginning to impact your relationships with yourself and others. Sometimes you’ve been living in survival mode for so long that you begin to feel hopeless. Unhealed trauma commonly manifests in the body as chronic

My ideal client struggles with psychological pain, feels alone, and is seeking professional help. I want to provide a therapeutic relationship between an experienced RN psychotherapist and a client who needs help managing anxiety, depression, trauma, anger, or
grief
. The client wants a better future for themselves by scheduling a session with a Registered Nurse Psychotherapist. The RNs all have seen a wide variety of cases and individuals having worked years as charge nurses or leadership within the hospital systems. They have many effective strategies to help you get back to yourself, and improve your future.

Along with my training in trauma counseling, I am knowledgeable in working in the areas of depression,
grief
, anxiety, PTSD and panic attacks to name a few.
Not All Wounds Are Visible… For centuries individuals who struggled with their mental health often suffered in silence. Today, mental health has been inching it's way into the forefront of public health concerns. This much needed element of openness has allowed for individuals to feel more at ease in seeking help when life becomes difficult to navigate. My passion is to sit with people during these challenging times. I am trained in trauma counseling and this is where my heart is. I have sat with clients who have experienced devastating losses. I have listened intently to those who have lived through unimaginable abuse.

Some of the issues which may be addressed and alleviated through counselling include stress, anxiety, depression, life transitions,
grief
, ADHD (children and adults), and self-esteem.
Life is full of challenges, and some are more manageable than others. You may be feeling overwhelmed by an issue that you can identify but have no idea how to tackle. Alternatively, you may be discontented or anxious with no idea why; you just know something isn't right. You may even be wondering if it's "all in your head." No matter how you feel or what you're struggling with, it is possible to get yourself back on track and begin to enjoy life again. The power to change is within you.

Symptoms of anxiety, depression,
loss
,
grief
, big life changes, burn-out and mood disorders can be relieved greatly through emotional exploration, mindfulness techniques, and self-compassion. My approach is based on the belief that a deeper understanding of ‘self’ ultimately instills a stronger sense of peace and health in our day to day lives. Honing our natural ability to self-regulate and heal often begins with naming our struggles and traumas in the presence of a supportive other. From here we gain greater clarity on how to take care of ourselves, create boundaries and self-care patterns that instigate lasting change.

Grief Counsellors
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
