Women
often have to wear many hats and it's common to find ourselves feeling overwhelmed, stressed out and anxious. Does this sound familiar? You feel your stress building and you start second guessing yourself and your choices. You fear making a mistake or letting someone down. Your self doubt grows, your negative self talk is on overdrive and you're becoming even more overwhelmed! The next thing you know, you're overindulging in food, substances, spending or anything that gives you relief in the moment but this just makes you feel worse! Then one day you say ‘What happened to me? I can’t do this anymore, I need help".

I offer services in English and Spanish (Español). Many
women
go through toxic relationships where they feel devastated; however, they ask themselves if their perception is correct because there are no punches or blood involved. Likewise,
women
begin to doubt themselves as their sense of reality is altered and their cognition is put to the test. Another serious consequence of this condition is low self-esteem.
Women
think that they have no value and that there will be no one in the world who will love or desire them anymore. This is a call to all
women
who want to recover themselves. You Are Not Alone!

Have you experienced child loss or birth trauma and need to process what happened? Maybe you need guidance in a difficult relationship or are experiencing anxiety and rage. It may feel like you aren't in control of anything and life feels lonely. Your family, friends, and partner don't feel these experiences like you do. It's almost like everyone forgot what you went through. This feels extremely invalidating and no one seems to understand. I am passionate about helping
women
feel empowered and confident as an individual, a parent and a partner.

Do you ever feel like you're wearing a mask? Pretending to be someone else, that “perfect version” of a
woman
we are taught to become? I know I sure did. I also know how destructive and exhausting it can be to spend your days pretending to be – and thinking you “should” be – someone you’re not. Let me help you take off the mask and discover the love within yourself.

Whether you are facing challenges with stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, or relationships in your life, I provide an empathetic and judgement free space to support you in taking steps in the direction that is best for you.

My clients dare to make changes because they want to feel like themselves again or they seek a better quality of life. Through varying approaches, I work to empower individuals to find solutions to overwhelming emotional challenges. These may be instances of divorce, abuse, trauma, depression, anxiety, work/family stress, or cultural adaptation; all areas in which I have professional training and 29 years experience. In addition to being an EMDR therapist, I have a solid background in trauma work, and am a qualified Gottman and Emotion Focused couples therapist. I am formerly a Clinical Supervisor and School Mental Health Leader.

Female Counsellors
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
