I understand the demands of family life and the struggles we all face in today’s culture.
Have you ever looked over at your partner and thought "I feel so disconnected from this person"? or "how did we ever end up here? where did things go wrong?" On one hand, a part of you might want to make this work but on the other hand, you are so deep into your problems that you don't know how to find your way back to how it was in the beginning. These may seem like scary and hopeless thoughts but let me tell you.... there is hope! There has never been a better time to be in couples therapy. There has been so much research done and we finally know what actually works to help couples find their way back from a place of disconnection

“It takes courage to grow up and be who you really are.” The journey from youth to adulthood can be a difficult transition for both parents and teens. If you are struggling as a parent to a teen or a teen yourself, I strive to help make this transition easier.

I specialize in creating a safe and compassionate space for my clients and work from an integrated trauma-informed approach - utilizing various therapeutic approaches such as EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Internal Family Systems Therapy, Brainspotting, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, and Mindfulness practices.
It takes courage to initiate therapy but investing in your well-being is one of the greatest gifts you can give to yourself. Whether you are seeking to learn strategies to cope with life's ups and downs, tools to manage challenging emotions, or support with difficult life events, it is my privledge to be here for you. While I possess a variety of tools to support you, I believe people are the experts in their own lives and therefore, therapy must be a collaborative process. I work together with you, so you can feel heard, understood, and ultimately empowered to cope and resolve the issues that brought you to counselling.

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
