If you have been thinking about art psychotherapy services for you or your child/ teen , please contact me for additional information.
In private practice, I specialize in working with children ages 9+, adolescents and adults. I have a strong commitment to professional and ethical standards. My clinical work is supported by a client-centered, strength-based and trauma-informed approach to counselling. Having taught yoga for over 9 years, allows me to integrate these practices into my therapeutic work as a way to support individuals by bringing awareness to their mind-body connection, and to help them build healthy and effective coping skills. I have additional trainings as a Trauma Integration Clinician, Trauma-Informed Practices and Somatic Regulation.

All of us experience stressors and struggles in our lives. Essentially, it is about how we process these situations that can leave long-lasting impacts. There is no right or wrong way in the processing of these events, rather there are healthy versus unhealthy coping skills. My role is to facilitate your emotional and mental health journey, to aid in building up resiliency so that you are better able to manage and work through those stressors.

Welcome, I am Meghan Walker; a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), a cat mom, Disney nerd and an advocate for mental health with a passion for working with youth and young adult populations. Being a young adult or youth in today’s world looks MUCH different from previous generations which can be hard to navigate. The constant changes, pressures and messages can be overwhelming and difficult to handle on your own. However, I am confident that I can help you work through challenging and changing behaviours, relationships, and communication styles by building upon skills, knowledge and connections.

We can create change together. Each individual is different, however, we all experience distress and suffering throughout life. I believe that change is possible and we can be taught to create it for ourselves in a helpful way. Stress, anxiety, depression, life transitions, sexuality, relationships, and so many other factors, affect the way we function and how we feel day in and out. It can be overwhelming to manage at times, and seeking support makes a difference. I work with individuals on finding the strengths they have to build healthier and happier lives.

Life is about Connections…to people, to places, to memories and things. But the nature of life is that we will experience problems and challenges at some point in life. Sometimes those challenges occur suddenly or at a time when you already feel stretched too thin. Or maybe you’ve lost that feeling of connection with yourself and others in your life. Finding someone you feel comfortable talking to is an important decision in searching for the help and support that is right for you. I offer an empathic, compassionate, and confidential place to share some of life's challenges that are interfering with your quality of life.

The ultimate goal in counselling is; to empower a person to reach their fullest potential in life. Counselling is especially important when a person is experiencing problems or difficulties which are affecting his or her quality of life. Lifestyle changes can cause tremendous fear and insecurity in people, especially for those who have unknowingly relied upon ineffective ways of coping with the everyday stresses of life. Turning to a competent and qualified therapist who can provide confidential support and advice about private worries or concerns at times of difficulty, can be most reassuring and helpful.

I am a seasoned clinical social worker (1999), an EMDR/trauma therapist (2001) and EMDR Consultant in Training. My approach is rooted in an intersectional feminist analysis developed over decades of activism. I am committed to making my clients feel heard, understood, seen, and cared for while we reprocess traumatic memories. Every approach I use has come to me through a combination of education, training; experience, spiritual practice, and my own therapy. My focus is to help calm the nervous system; improve relationships; address somatic symptoms (ie pain, autoimmune disease); manage caregiver stress; and reconnect with the body.

Teen Counsellors
Adolescence can be a time of both disorientation and discovery. The transitional period can raise questions of independence and identity; as adolescents cultivate their sense of self, they may face difficult choices about academics, friendship, sexuality, gender identity, drugs, and alcohol.

Most teens have a relatively egocentric perspective on life; a state of mind that usually abates with age. They often focus on themselves and believe that everyone else—from a best friend to a distant crush—is focused on them too. They may grapple with insecurities and feelings of being judged. Relationships with family members often take a backseat to peer groups, romantic interests, and appearance, which teens perceive as increasingly important during this time.

The transition can naturally lead to anxiety about physical development, evolving relationships with others, and one's place in the larger world. Mild anxiety and other challenges are typical, but serious mental health conditions also emerge during adolescence. Finding a teen therapist in Windsor and addressing a disorder early on can help ensure the best possible outcome.
