When your darkness looms, you must venture inward as opposed to looking outward. The light lives within and we will venture together to find it and bring it out. I believe in a holistic approach because every person has what they require to heal inside. Sometimes, people go to therapy and come out feeling the same as they went in, with no new perspective. I believe this is because the person hasn’t been asked the right questions or challenged. I endeavour to ensure my clients see a new perspective, develop insight into their patterns and behaviours, and take responsibility for themselves in life.

Our humanity is shared in that we all experience stress, pain, and conflicts in our lives. Through small shifts, our relationships with others and ourselves can improve when we align our inner experience, thoughts, and behaviours with our authentic self. I like to approach therapy by helping you uncover the blocks that are keeping you from living as the absolute best version of yourself.

Life can feel like an overwhelming and challenging journey at times. Stressors and difficult life events, along with strong emotions such as depression and anxiety, can make it hard to function in day-to-day life and can impact one’s self esteem and confidence. By addressing difficult and strong emotions, self defeating thoughts and self-sabotaging behaviors, life can be made more manageable, productive and fulfilling. I’m dedicated to helping support individuals develop a deeper understanding of themselves, increasing their personal growth/development and to make meaningful change in their life.

As a therapist, it is not my place to pass judgment but rather support clients on their journey to understanding how deeply their experiences have impacted their mental, physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing. This path is not easy nor linear, but it is best traversed with the guidance of an unbiased and empathetic professional by one’s side in a safe therapeutic space. I value empowering and motivating others to meet their goals as I demonstrate the acceptance, genuineness, congruent and unconditional positive regard that I believe they are capable of showing themselves.

Finding the right therapist and committing to psychotherapy isn't easy. If you’re ready to develop insight, self-compassion, and skills, l'm ready to use humour, energy, and warmth to supplement principles from cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), mindfulness, cognitive processing therapy (CPT) and other methods to customize an approach. I work with women aged 18 and up in many stressful circumstances. We target concerns like mood fluctuations, anxiety, perfectionism, trauma, loss, self-esteem, stress management, and much more.

Do you experience anxiety, grief, depression, interpersonal relationship issues, or a general feeling of unease or unhappiness with no discernible cause. These are some of the challenges that might have you considering speaking to a mental health professional. The idea of meeting with a stranger to discuss private matters might be unsettling, and there may be a misunderstanding about what therapy can do to help when you are struggling. You need not struggle alone. Therapy can offer a different perspective on your experience, and provide relief of symptoms so that you can live a happier life.

How can I find a therapist in Whitby?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or province where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

How much does therapy cost?

Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $3200 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
