In the words of Brene Brown, "Owning our story and loving ourselves through that process, is the bravest thing we will ever do". I have had the pleasure of working with individual, couples, and families in private practice and the child welfare setting over the past several years. It has lead me to understand the complexities that life & relationships can come with. I specialize in childhood trauma, physical and sexual assault, PTSD, addictions and mental health, self-harm, family reintegration, marital support, working with the LGBTQ+ community. In addition to, Autism, ADHD, OCD and bi-polar disorder.

Looking for that sense of belonging is what we desire as humans. Feeling accepted from others is not always easily obtained which can sometimes create states of distress, panic and loneliness. Self reflection is integral for growth but is not always practiced. Rebuilding that connection with yourself and others in your life can be difficult, but you don’t have to do it alone.

** I am currently accepting new clients** Mental health is important to me, as I am sure it probably is to you as well. I believe that at its core, therapeutic practice is rooted in the belief that our problems do not lie in us but between; in our relationship with ourselves and with others.

I can provide you with the insight, tools and support you need to bring about healing so that you can approach life in a new way.

We all need a safe space, and a person to hear, and understand us. I believe that we can tackle problems more effectively when we can discuss them openly and honestly. It’s my role to facilitate that conversation and create the pathway towards your preferred ways of living.

If there is one thing that I believe wholeheartedly it is the statement that, “you are enough.” No matter the circumstance, feeling, or emotion, we are able to navigate the situation. We may just need some help along the way. I focus on a holistic approach which integrates the mind, body, and spirit and truly believe if one of these three are not aligned, it creates a ripple effect throughout the rest of our being. I have experience in the trauma and crisis field and working with those who may have experienced post-traumatic stress. In addition to this, I have also worked with individuals experiencing life transitions.

I believe that you have the ability to live your best and most fulfilling life with some support and guidance. Mental health is one of the most feared topics to discuss because of all the stigma and shame associated with struggling with mental and psychological wellness. My hope is that we can work together to identify, acknowledge and work through any of the struggles you are experiencing. My practice has a few therapists outside of myself, so if for any reason we are not able to make our schedules align or we are not the best fit together, we can definitely offer some other options to support you.

How can I find a therapist in Whitby?
Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or province where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
How much does therapy cost?
Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $3200 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
