Currently offering remote sessions (phone and video call). Accepting new clients. When most clients come to me they don't know where to start. Things have been difficult and they haven't been able to overcome their problems alone or with their friend's advice. My clients need someone to listen, someone who knows about the fake face, someone who can help them understand "why"; and help them find a way to get healthy. I have a Masters in Counseling Psychology from OISE | UofT the University of Toronto where I learned to use research-supported methods to help clients be empowered. Clients are always the experts on themselves.

Our humanity is shared in that we all experience stress, pain, and conflicts in our lives. Through small shifts, our relationships with others and ourselves can improve when we align our inner experience, thoughts, and behaviours with our authentic self. I like to approach therapy by helping you uncover the blocks that are keeping you from living as the absolute best version of yourself.

Accepting new clients. I work with adults and youth who experience depression, anxiety, work-related stress, self-esteem concerns, physical stress, injury-related stress, relationship conflict, loss, and pain. Knowing how challenging life can be, it is important that we have a safe community and people to assist us when sometimes we cannot manage our experiences alone. Thus together within therapy, we will work as a team to explore present patterns and behaviours that result in feelings we wish to change and build a strong and compassionate belief of self, exploring new strategies and techniques along the way.

Are you having issues with self-esteem? Relationships? Friendships? School? Work? Or do you have a loved one who is struggling? Perhaps with some anxiety? Depression? Body image concerns? Disordered eating? Self-harm? Suicidal ideation? If any of this sounds familiar, I am so glad you are here. Navigating any of the concerns above is not easy, and it takes a lot of courage to reach out, show up, and begin the process of therapy.

Are you someone who is burdened with anxiety or with feelings of guilt or shame from expectations from family members or societal pressures? Maybe you're struggling with self-esteem issues. I want to let you know that whatever you're going through, it’s okay to feel what you’re feeling. It’s okay to be where you're at right now because we've all experienced similar emotions at some point in our lives, which simply makes us human. I’ve been there, too, so I can empathize with what you might be experiencing.

Namaste! I provide individual, relationship and marriage counselling, in a nonjudgmental, relaxed environment. Over the last 35 years I have worked with individuals and couples guiding, teaching and helping them by using an eclectic approach, and a variety of different types of modalities depending on the particular needs of my clients. I also provide family mediation and relationship counselling for couples who have split. I am a sex therapist, working with all couples and individuals. I specialize in many areas, as I believe all issues are connected, so to treat problems in isolation is unrealistic and can be short lived.

Self Esteem Counsellors

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?

When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?

Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?

Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?

Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
