Working in policing, emergency services, or public safety can mean staying alert, composed, and ready to respond—even when the stress follows you home. Over time, you may notice anxiety, irritability, difficulty switching off, emotional exhaustion, or feeling disconnected from yourself or the people closest to you. I support first responders navigating the personal and relational impact of high-stress work, offering a confidential, collaborative space to understand what’s happening, strengthen coping, and find greater balance both on and off the job.

On paper, you are reliable and ambitious. But internally, you feel like you're running on a treadmill that never stops. You don’t just need to "vent"; you need a strategy. For couples, the spark has been replaced by repetitive conflict or silent drift. Hi, I’m Martín. I specialize in strengthening the two most critical connections: with your partner, and with yourself. I help individuals build self-worth based on who they are, not just what they do, and provide couples a practical roadmap to navigate communication breakdowns and find their way back to one another.

Many of the people I work with are navigating anxiety, depression, OCD, ADHD, trauma, grief, or struggles with self esteem. Others feel stuck in difficult relationship patterns, overwhelmed by stress, or quietly carrying more than they show. I often work with high functioning individuals who appear to have everything together on the outside while quietly feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, or disconnected on the inside. If you feel stuck in survival mode, or ready for something to feel different, therapy can be a place to slow down, feel understood, and begin making meaningful changes in your life.

Big emotions and chronically feeling overwhelmed can be exhausting. Most of us will try what's already worked for us in the past, and when those things aren't getting us where we need to go, that's where therapy can step in. A focused practice of stepping back, looking at what's going on, and then stepping forward again to explore the pain points and the discomfort so folks can make change and live differently, is what I've been providing for people as a licenced counsellor for the past eighteen years. I do so in a way that joins the head and the heart, that's compassionate, non-judgemental, and often with a dose of humour.

With over 15 years of experience in family and children’s mental health, and another 10 beyond that in child development/care, I realize that life happens in many forms, with everyone experiencing and perceiving it differently. I see everyone as an individual, whose shoes I can never walk in, but hopefully I can support and walk beside for a time. All people are challenged in their lifetime, but for individuals and their families who have special needs, this is an on-going quest.

I draw from a blend of modalities such as Internal Family Systems (IFS), Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Psychodynamic Therapy, depending on what feels most supportive.
It takes courage to reach out for support, and if you’ve found yourself here you are already taking a meaningful first step. I do not believe that therapy is about "fixing" what is broken, but instead making space to understand your experience, your struggles, and your story with compassion and curiosity.

Life is full of challenges. Sometimes our past and present life circumstances make it hard to manage them. Relationships, life transitions, trauma, fears, grief and loss, parenting worries, anxiety or low self esteem can all trigger feelings of distress and rob you of joy. When it feels hard to cope, it helps to talk. You don’t have to navigate these challenges by yourself. I can support you. You are not alone.

I often use Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and psychodynamic therapy in my practice.
At times, life can feel heavier than you can carry. Some days, even getting out of bed may feel like climbing a mountain. You might feel lost, unsure where to begin, and wonder if things will ever change. In those moments, hope can feel far away—yet even in the darkest times, life often holds more possibilities than we can see. I offer a compassionate & non-judgmental space where you can speak openly, feel heard, and begin to untangle what feels overwhelming. Together, we’ll rediscover the strengths you already carry so you can move toward growth, find balance, and reconnect with your parts that long for love, connection, and peace!

Navigating through life can be challenging with the struggles we face such as, but not limited to, aversive life events, unwanted changes, uncertainties about the future, loss of a loved one, conflicts in relationships, and becoming your authentic self. Much of these life struggles throw an imbalance to our mental health wellness, causing difficult emotions and somatic symptoms to arise that seem to permeate through and taint every aspect of our lives. These challenging times may feel endless, and you may feel lost, but know that you are never alone.

Psychodynamic Counsellors
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
