Have you been to therapy with little success or change? Are you tired of approaches that focus on symptom management and ignore the deeper reasons as to why you are struggling? My clients are those that are struggling mentally, emotionally, and/or physically (in the case of chronic pain or illness ) where conventional methods of therapy haven't worked for them. My clients are those that want freedom in their life. They are those who want to live without the limits of illness and the constraints of their physical, mental, and emotional burdens.

I am a compassionate, understanding, non-judgmental counsellor who believes everyone has the right to wellness and balance. I provide insurance-friendly counselling for individuals, couples, families and children. My special area of focus is in helping my clients to free themselves from their painful, traumatic pasts and to achieve personal balance and wellness as they create a fresh start in life. Often, emotional and physical pain is resolved from the inside out as my clients and I interact, and as we work together to arrive at a deeper understanding of their condition and the solutions they seek.

Currently not accepting new clients. I work with adults and youth who experience depression, anxiety, work-related stress, self-esteem concerns, physical stress, injury-related stress, relationship conflict, loss, and pain . Knowing how challenging life can be, it is important that we have a safe community and people to assist us when sometimes we cannot manage our experiences alone. Thus together within therapy, we will work as a team to explore present patterns and behaviours that result in feelings we wish to change and build a strong and compassionate belief of self, exploring new strategies and techniques along the way.

My goal is not to eliminate the difficulties or pain you may be faced with, but rather to help you find ways to cope with and work through them at your own pace.
Are you having issues with self-esteem? Relationships? Friendships? School? Work? Or do you have a loved one who is struggling? Perhaps with some anxiety? Depression? Body image concerns? Disordered eating? Self-harm? Suicidal ideation? If any of this sounds familiar, I am so glad you are here. Navigating any of the concerns above is not easy, and it takes a lot of courage to reach out, show up, and begin the process of therapy.

When your darkness looms, you must venture inward as opposed to looking outward. The light lives within and we will venture together to find it and bring it out. I believe in a holistic approach because every person has what they require to heal inside. Sometimes, people go to therapy and come out feeling the same as they went in, with no new perspective. I believe this is because the person hasn’t been asked the right questions or challenged. I endeavour to ensure my clients see a new perspective, develop insight into their patterns and behaviours, and take responsibility for themselves in life.

Intense emotions can pull you into a downward spiral of feeling overwhelmed and lost. It is difficult to face life when you are walking around with a heavy chest or feeling anxious. It is likely that you were never taught how to cope with how you feel or understand why a part of you feels empty inside. It can feel uncomfortable to turn to friends and family, fearing how they may react. I offer a compassionate and non-judgmental space, where you can feel heard as you work through difficult emotions. I can provide you with the insight, tools and support you need to bring about healing so that you can approach life in a new way.

Many of the problems we experience in life can be traced back to parts of ourself that are wounded or not properly integrated. I help you to reflect and make sense of your experience, and to work through areas of your life that bring discomfort. In moving through these discomforts/stuck areas in a new way, you release these wounds, become free from their grasp & move into more aligned, embodied & authentic living. We cannot fully integrate (become whole in our life) unless we heal and integrate all parts (this includes shadow work, healing parental and childhood wounds, ego work, sacred sexuality, reprogramming belief systems).

Namaste! I provide individual, relationship and marriage counselling, in a nonjudgmental, relaxed environment. Over the last 35 years I have worked with individuals and couples guiding, teaching and helping them by using an eclectic approach, and a variety of different types of modalities depending on the particular needs of my clients. I also provide family mediation and relationship counselling for couples who have split. I am a sex therapist, working with all couples and individuals. I specialize in many areas, as I believe all issues are connected, so to treat problems in isolation is unrealistic and can be short lived.

Chronic Pain Counsellors

How does chronic pain therapy work?

Engaging with a psychotherapist to help treat chronic pain does not mean that one’s pain is all in their head. Therapy for chronic-pain patients has been shown to benefit both the mind and the body, targeting physical symptoms and increasing daily functioning. In other words, for many, addressing their emotional health through therapy affects their physical health. A therapist can help a client challenge unhelpful thoughts about pain and develop new ways to respond to it, such as distraction or calming breathing techniques. Studies have found that therapy can be as effective as surgery for certain cases of chronic pain and many doctors recommend trying psychotherapy in advance of considering invasive surgery.

What are the most effective treatment options for chronic pain?

Stress, anxiety, depression, catastrophising, ruminating, lack of activity, and social withdrawal all make chronic pain worse. Addressing these issues, research shows, can help people gain control over their pain symptoms. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioural therapy, biofeedback, and mindfulness-based stress reduction, along with greater pain-management education, have been found to help people reduce fear and disability.

Are there new treatments for chronic pain?

Many cases of chronic pain, particularly those involving back pain, remain medically unexplained. But there is evidence that changes in the brain or nervous system are caused by previous physical ailments such as tissue damage; in such cases, the brain may continue to send out pain signals despite the physical cause having healed. To aid patients under these circumstances, a recently developed treatment known as pain reprocessing therapy (PRT) is designed to help the brain “unlearn” this response. A PRT practitioner helps individuals to reduce the “threat value” of their ongoing pain signals until they can reappraise them as less threatening and fear-inducing. They also help an individual to develop new emotional regulation skills.

How long does therapy for chronic pain take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from chronic pain, especially as there may be a range of physical and psychological causes for any individual’s discomfort, but most patients should expect to see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions. Studies of pain reprocessing therapy found that many individuals’ experience of pain lessened in eight sessions over four weeks.
