Do you often find yourself laying awake at night thinking: I see my teen struggling but I’m not sure how to help. They don’t seem to want to open up to me. I see their potential to be so successful in school, with friends, at work but there seems to be something getting in their way. I just want the best for them and to be happy. These worries are so hard on a parent.

Looking for that sense of belonging is what we desire as humans. Feeling accepted from others is not always easily obtained which can sometimes create states of distress, panic and loneliness. Self reflection is integral for growth but is not always practiced. Rebuilding that connection with yourself and others in your life can be difficult, but you don’t have to do it alone.

Only recently have we as a society become aware of the importance of taking the time to work on our mental health. Like physical health, improving your emotional health can take many forms. Similar to a personal trainer at the gym, you may choose to start (or continue) your journey to improve your mental health and relationships with a Clinical Therapist. I work with couples, parents, families, and individuals to improve communication and coping strategies. It may seem impossible to find your way in the darkest moments, but with the right, non-judgmental support and guidance, it is never too late to find and shine your inner light.

OPENINGS AVAILABLE Feeling alone, depressed, left out and afraid is a difficult place to be. Especially if no one understands what you are going through. You still have responsibilities (school, family, work and friends), but it's hard to get out of bed most days. If any of this sounds familiar than Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) or Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) are two therapies that can be of use. CBT helps those who have symptoms that are not trauma based and CPT helps you process traumatic incidents that have left you riddled with anxiety, sadness and difficulty sleeping. Both therapies are good to suit different needs.

Many of the problems we experience in life can be traced back to parts of ourself that are wounded or not properly integrated. I help you to reflect and make sense of your experience, and to work through areas of your life that bring discomfort. In moving through these discomforts/stuck areas in a new way, you release these wounds, become free from their grasp & move into more aligned, embodied & authentic living. We cannot fully integrate (become whole in our life) unless we heal and integrate all parts (this includes shadow work, healing parental and childhood wounds, ego work, sacred sexuality, reprogramming belief systems).

Teen Counsellors
Adolescence can be a time of both disorientation and discovery. The transitional period can raise questions of independence and identity; as adolescents cultivate their sense of self, they may face difficult choices about academics, friendship, sexuality, gender identity, drugs, and alcohol.

Most teens have a relatively egocentric perspective on life; a state of mind that usually abates with age. They often focus on themselves and believe that everyone else—from a best friend to a distant crush—is focused on them too. They may grapple with insecurities and feelings of being judged. Relationships with family members often take a backseat to peer groups, romantic interests, and appearance, which teens perceive as increasingly important during this time.

The transition can naturally lead to anxiety about physical development, evolving relationships with others, and one's place in the larger world. Mild anxiety and other challenges are typical, but serious mental health conditions also emerge during adolescence. Finding a teen therapist in Whitby and addressing a disorder early on can help ensure the best possible outcome.
