Therapists for Teens and Adolescents in Waterloo, ON
You’re functioning—but you’re not okay. Stress is building, sleep is off, patience is thin, and you’re either on edge or completely shut down. You may be stuck in your head, avoiding conflict, or exploding when things pile up. Maybe your relationship is strained, trust has been broken, or you feel alone even when you’re not. You want to feel steady again, handle emotions without losing control, and stop repeating the same patterns. You don’t need a lecture—you need support that actually helps.

I have worked with children, adolescents and adults.
I utilize two main treatment modalities. EMDR helps you to process disturbing events and clear the trauma you have experienced in your life. TFCBT helps to challenge negative thoughts and create a trauma narrative. I also use EMDR Flash Technique developed by Pillip Manfried. It helps to painlessly reduce the trauma disturbance without focusing on the trauma

It's 3am again. You woke up two hours ago and your mind hasn't stopped - tomorrow's to-do list, the thing you said in the meeting that landed wrong, whether you remembered to RSVP for the birthday party, whether that email you sent at 8pm was too direct. Somehow you thought you'd feel "happy" and "together" by now, but instead you're filled with dread. You did everything the responsible way - the degree, the career, the calendar that runs everyone's life - and now your body keeps a schedule you didn't pick. Nothing technically "looks" broken. But is this the life you actually want? You're just running on empty and you know it

Do you feel stuck in old patterns, ruminating thoughts, repetitive behaviors, or uncomfortable, overwhelming feelings? With compassionate care and support, change is possible, patterns shift, feelings flow, and growth can happen.
What are often labeled “symptoms” are, to me, the creative and protective responses we develop to help us survive. I don’t see these parts of you as problems to be fixed, but as messengers, carrying stories of pain, resilience, and unmet needs. Together, we can meet these parts with compassion, curiosity, and care, moving toward greater acceptance, peace, and wholeness, to support the change process.

Over the past seven years I have specialized in providing Trauma Informed treatment for both adolescent and adults.
In life there are many paths to take; some are laid out for us, others we opt out of, and some come at a crossroads. Knowing what to do can become challenging and giving ourselves the space to explore where we are going or how we got there, can be a difficult process to undertake. Whether you find yourself lost, tired, and or uncertain, know that you do not have to come to these places alone. As someone on their own journey I understand the value of making sense and meaning of the stories we tell about ourselves, as these are the stories that will speak to how we view ourselves, others, and or communicate with the people we love.

FAQ - Teenage and Adolescent Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
