Grounded in the neuroscience of mindfulness and somatics, my work empowers you to master the biology of change.
I am Triena Horne, a Social Worker helping you navigate life’s chaos. While we cannot control external events, we can cultivate our response. I walk alongside you through uncertainty, transforming discomfort into insight. Let’s move from rumination to action. I provide the gears, including psychoeducation and practical skills, to build your capacity for the road ahead. We focus on gaining momentum by acknowledging the past, releasing what no longer serves, and creating space for alignment. My goal is your lasting autonomy, helping you find your balance so you can eventually ride forward confidently without me.

Instead, I combine talk therapy, somatic tools, values, and mindfulness to help you understand and transform your patterns, and embrace authenticity.
Do you often feel like the “strong one”? The friend, student, or employee who always shows up, even when you’re running on empty? You may appear calm and capable on the outside, yet feel anxious, lonely, or overwhelmed inside. I'm here with you. You don't have to do this alone any longer. I support young adults in their 20s and 30s who struggle with people-pleasing, perfectionism, low self-worth, or unfulfilling relationship patterns. Therapy with me is a space where you don’t have to hold it all together. In our work together, we can explore what’s beneath these patterns and build tools for balance, confidence, and connection.

You might be feeling overwhelmed, stretched thin, or unsure how to move forward. Maybe you’re caring for a loved one living with dementia or cognitive decline, grieving a loss, or navigating a major life change that has left you exhausted, anxious, or disconnected from yourself. You want space to make sense of what you’re carrying, to feel supported instead of stressed, and to move through this chapter with more clarity and steadiness.

I work from a person-centered, mindfulness perspective.
The clients who choose to work with me all want change, and I believe the path forward lies within us. I have experience working specifically with depression, anxiety, stress, grief and loss, coping, infidelity, shame, and anger. I have supported clients ranging from high school-aged adolescents to senior populations. Our goals together can involve harnessing stronger emotional regulation, improving self-esteem, understanding the deeper meaning of behaviours and thought processes, or even decision making. Progress is a matter of reconciling what we possess inside to move ourselves forward.

I am an autonomous Registered Psychologist with over 12 years of clinical experience. I work with individuals navigating a range of challenges including anxiety, low mood, ADHD and attention difficulties, OCD, trauma, chronic stress, and interpersonal concerns. Many of the people I support are high-functioning on the outside but internally feel disorganized, overwhelmed, burnt out, or unsure why everyday tasks feel harder than they should. They are seeking clarity, practical tools, and a better understanding of how their mind works so they can feel calmer, more confident, and more present in their relationships and daily life.

Accepting New Clients (July 2026): You're a highly sensitive person who people-pleases, has a hard time setting boundaries, and struggles to regulate big emotions. You have read the self-help books, podcasts, tried meditation, journaling, exercise, clean eating, watched all the therapy Instagram reels - maybe you even tried therapy before, but you felt like you were just talking about your problems. You need somebody to help you actually PROCESS what’s going on, not just listen. You need somebody who can hold you accountable to making real change in your life, and (lovingly) call you on your shit.

My ideal client wants to understand themselves on a deeper level. They may be seeking relief from anxiety or emotional distress, but more than symptom reduction, they’re longing for clarity, confidence, and healthier relationships. They want to feel grounded instead of overwhelmed, secure instead of uncertain, and more aligned with who they truly are so they can move through life with greater ease and self-trust.

I often integrate CBT, DBT, mindfulness, and trauma-informed care to help clients manage life's challenges by breaking big problems into smaller, more manageable pieces.
You’re doing so much for everyone else, but deep down, it’s hard to remember the last time you felt calm, or even like yourself. Whether you’re navigating stress, anxiety, trauma, or emotional overload, you don’t have to carry it alone. I work with children, teens, and adults who are feeling emotionally shut down, disconnected, or overwhelmed by daily life. Together, we’ll make space for what you’ve been holding in.

Hope is powerful and is often what helps us push forward when life’s challenges become confusing and overwhelming. Yet, hope can be difficult to find and hold on to. I cannot promise solutions, but I am committed to walking with individuals, couples, and families in their search for understanding, growth, healing, and hope. I take a holistic and collaborative approach in exploring deeper emotions and thought patterns in past and present experiences.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Counsellors
How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behaviour through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviours and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioural habits.
