I offer a warm, non-judgemental, confidential environment to discuss your issues. As a registered psychotherapist and counsellor, I am mindful of early life experiences,
family
dynamics and parental relationships and recognize that these may be integral to your narrative. As an integrative psychotherapist, I use a variety of approaches and modalities. These can be discussed with you during the early stages of the counselling process or become a more organic experience as we begin working together.

I support persons who are navigating a variety of life stressors. Anxiety and depression plague many I serve, as they navigate grief/loss, adapting after a traumatic event, major life changes or personal realizations. I have a working knowledge of the social and community systems that persons I serve often intersect with (ie. education,
family
law, criminal law, hopsitals, children's aid) and work collaboratively with people to find their voice, engage in self care and advocacy in a concerted effort to invite optimal outcomes. Please explore my website to learn more at www.familyfundamental.com.

Life in Harmony at Vaughan Counselling Center
MA, RP, RSW
Our therapists most frequently encounter clients that express a version of "I know what to do, but I just can't seem to do it." You may find this familiar. Whether you are disoriented by a crisis, experiencing
family
issues, considering leaving a relationship, or going through any transition, some degree of reservation, anxiety, and self-doubt is natural. But if these feelings keep you from moving forward, ignoring them will not make them leave; thus, it is vital to your wellbeing to acknowledge your anxieties, identify their roots, and take decisive actions to overcome them.

Cultural values,
family
history and rigid expectations about our future can shape the stories we have about ourselves. These stories can begin to feel heavy and leave us feeling “not good enough.” I work with individuals who are struggling with anxiety, imposter syndrome, self-worth and relationships. Together we work to understand your relationship with yourself, and the impacts of your environment on your wellbeing. I support in developing healthy boundaries and coping strategies. I use both exploratory methods of Internal
Family
Systems and Narrative Therapy as well as skills based approaches like Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

***ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS: IN-PERSON & PHONE/VIDEO*** We believe that there is good in every person, and hope in every situation. We have helped individuals, couples, and families heal, grow, and connect. As relational therapists, we appreciate the impact that our relationships have on our well-being. We do not see clients as having something wrong with their minds that necessarily needs to be fixed. Rather, we see our clients as unique individuals, each with their own stories and perspectives, embedded in important relationships and contexts that impact them. We see strengths and we see hope, even when it feels like there is none.

Through these years of perfect imperfection, as you move and grow with your
family
, you want to feel more like yourself, happy and confident.
Accepting new clients! - Choosing to priortize yourself is a real challenge in the young parenting years. Some days it can feel as if you will never be enough, and you don’t know how to fix things. Everyone needs you, and there isn’t even a moment to pee in peace. The messes grow exponentially… maybe it’s a win if everyone is fed and safe by the end of each day. Maybe you feel like you are drowning. I felt the same at that stage. Maybe you are struggling with caregiving, fertility, adoption or medical issues in the
family
. Maybe you are an aunt, uncle, grandparent or other guardian. And you just. can’t. cope. anymore. Let's talk!

My practice involves expertise in couple and
family
dynamics, intimacy, self-growth, leadership development, and relational parenting incorporating expressive-a.
I believe that each one of us is the sum of all the journeys we have taken and all the people we have met along the way. We navigate peaks and valleys, traveling up or downstream. At different junctures in our lives, we find ourselves in an ‘in-between’ not knowing which path to take. It is through my own journey and the ones I have taken with others that I have come to bear witness to the strength, courage, and wisdom we each have within us. In my work with individuals, couples, children and youth, I explore challenges, crisis, loss and struggle within the context of one’s interpersonal relationships.

What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
