I apply directive therapeutic strategies to help my clients overcome challenges and achieve their goals. I primarily assist individuals and couples struggling with pregnancy loss and infertility. I also help members of the LGBTQ community build families using Assisted Reproductive Technologies. Another segment of my client base are individuals seeking help for anxiety, depression and/or low-self-esteem. In addition, I use my background in fitness and wellness to guide my clients looking to lose weight or improve their overall health.

I offer "been-there-done-that" weight loss empathy & strategy! I am current on weight loss science with close connections to weight loss physicians.
I lost 100lbs and currently kept it off for eight years (I started August 15, 2012). I remember at my heaviest weight, I wanted to talk to someone who had been there, done that & understood I so badly wanted to change and my frustration at not changing. I wanted someone who could quiet my mind when it worried about my weight and help me gain control of my body and life. I know what it's like to start losing weight, only to abandon the effort shortly thereafter. If you repeat that pattern and put your health and quality of life at risk, then you likely feel that there are issues that need to be addressed psychologically - I can help!

People just like you come to me struggling with relationships - you are trying to get your message across but its just not working, whatever you try you just keep getting caught in the same argument. Others come to me because depression, anxiety and stress is making it hard for them to cope. Whatever the challenge, my clients want a safe place to share their feelings - a judgement free zone, and new ways to cope with their struggles. I know being vulnerable is uncomfortable so I will give you the time you need to develop trust and feel comfortable with the therapy process.

I believe that every client has the ability and the desire to reach their potential through personal growth and change. I focus on the unique nature of each client, and I consider them as the expert of their own experience. I view my role as providing clients with empathy and support. I emphasize genuineness and being led by the client, using a team approach. I regard us as equal partners, rather than viewing myself as an expert therapist and the client as being helpless.

* PLEASE NOTE I AM NOT TAKING NEW CLIENTS AT THIS TIME. Looking inside yourself isn't always easy, but it is necessary, especially if you feel depressed, anxious, lost, or overwhelmed. The first step is putting your thoughts and feelings into words. Psychotherapy gives you the opportunity to talk about what is troubling you. This can provide a sense of relief, help you to feel less alone, and allow you to explore what has been getting in your way. With my help, you can discover better ways of dealing with your problems and gain a deeper insight into yourself that will improve your sense of well-being and self-esteem.

The reality is that every life is full of ups and downs. Our challenge in the short time each of us has on this planet is to make the most of it by relishing in the ups – and working through the downs so we can come out on the other side as a better, happier and more enlightened person. Which is where I come in. I’m a registered social worker, psychotherapist. I am also a lawyer who formerly practiced family law for almost 10 years. My passion as a therapist is to help people live their authentic life and make sense of the challenges they encounter along the way.

How can I find a therapist in Toronto?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or province where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

How much does therapy cost?

Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $3200 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
