Hello, and welcome. If you are here you may be seeking ways to cope with difficult things in your life — finding a way to be with uncertainty, sadness or pain; managing relationships or work; perhaps noticing feelings and thoughts that you may not even fully understand. The hard part of this work is seeing and holding what is inside of us, being with it, and perhaps making sense of it.  The beautiful part of this work is gathering the hurtful bits and the joyful pieces and holding them all at the same time, together.  I will not, and cannot, tell you how to be but I can create safety and openness with you.

When intense anger or fear suddenly appears, it can be hard to not feel crazy. When people call you too sensitive or dramatic, it can be hard not to feel like there's something wrong with you. This probably makes you feel alone in your emotions and consistently anxious about how people see you and whether they'll abandon you. So, you try to distract yourself as best as you can so your emotions don't completely take over. But you can still feel them building up right beneath the surface, and you're tired of always pushing them down. I know how scary and exhausting this can be.

Hi, I'm Dr. Sharon Chan, a Clinical Psychologist registered in Ontario to provide services to children, adolescents, families, and adults. I'm excited to be part of the MindFit team, a leading 30+ clinician private practice, or what I prefer to call a "mental health gym". Seeking support can be stigmatizing and impersonal - but it doesn't need to be! Just like a typical gym, MindFit is designed to be accessible and inviting to anyone looking to improve their emotional well-being. I use effective, evidence-based treatments and most importantly, do everything I can to ensure you feel supported, accepted, and valued.

Life can seem truly overwhelming at times, especially in our day and age when global concerns may compound our personal stressors. Many people have carried the weight of distressing, sometimes traumatic events with them throughout life, only to find one day that this weight has become crushing. Even those who have gone through life with relative ease may suddenly feel overwhelmed by difficult situations, such as physical or mental illness, the death of a loved one, relationship or parenting problems, divorce or other life transitions.

I believe that at the heart of effective therapy is the therapeutic relationship. Therapy should feel human, grounded, relational, and real, rather than distant or overly clinical. I bring openness, empathy, and genuine care into our work together, along with years of experience supporting clients through anxiety, relationship challenges, identity exploration, and life transitions. I value transparency by sharing my reflections and inviting your voice into the process. This is a collaborative partnership, where you have choice in both the direction and depth of our work.

Many of us know that life can be complex, challenging and sometimes throws us a curve ball. It can contribute to different emotions, relational issues, health problems, difficulty making decisions or a feeling of being overwhelmed and alone. Quite often, we are able to work through these challenges with our normal coping strategies. However, at other times, no matter what we try, the difficulty doesn’t resolve and it gets in the way of our happiness, relationships, work and hopefulness about the future. If this is happening to you, or you are afraid it might, now may be a good time to reach out for support.

You don't have to have it figured out to begin. Therapy can start exactly where you are — whether you're feeling stuck, restless, or simply sensing that the way you've been living, relating, or coping has started to cost you something. I work relationally and in depth, drawing from psychodynamic, somatic, and self psychology. Together we pay close attention to the patterns in your relationships, the stories you carry about yourself, and what unfolds between us. I'll bring curiosity and compassion — you bring whatever you're ready to explore. You won't be doing this alone.

My clients are often thoughtful, sensitive people who feel overwhelmed by anxiety, trauma, or the weight of life experiences that still live in their bodies. Many are part of the LGBTQ+ community, professionals, or creatives seeking a space where they can show up fully without needing to explain themselves. They want relief from anxiety, emotional reactivity, and disconnection, and they are looking to better understand their nervous system, feel more grounded in their bodies, and reconnect with a deeper sense of self, safety, and belonging.

Many of the milestones of early adulthood can be daunting. Postsecondary education, embarking on building a career, and navigating relationships brings about a lot of change. Many people wind up feeling nervous, overwhelmed, and uncertain about the future, and struggle to manage their demands and cope with stress. It is also a time of life where many people feel uncomfortable in their own skin. Perhaps you can relate. Maybe you are also feeling down, empty, and unmotivated. I understand this is a time where you may need extra support and help to develop coping skills to meet the demands of your life.
